JCW Noob: R56 JCW (dealer) Tune Kit ??s

Conisdering doing this to Syd my new R56. $2,300 installed at the dealer for a JCW exhaust, JCW air box (is this any diff than the one for R53s?) some ECU tweak for the airbox/exhaust, and few steenkin badges. ??s:

is this what they call a Stage 1 JCW?

And, has anyone else here done this to their R56s, and yr experiences?

Thanks!

Hmmm.. that is a good question

We have the stage 1 JCW engine kit our 07 R56 and the car really hauls ***!! It is way faster now and not just a little faster either. You won't void your warranty either if go that route. The exhaust sounds pretty impressive also. I think that you'll be quite pleased and very impressed if you do it.

Do you have an automatic? If so, do a search for auto and JCW. It is my understanding that Mini won't install the JCW kit on an auto due to some issues they are trying to resolve.

No, we have a standard. I don't understand why they won't install the kit on an automatic & what kind of issues could there be? It doesn't make much sense to me.

I got the JCW tuning and suspension installed on my car. I HIGHLY recommend both!

Im going down to my dealership today to see if all this talk about no tuning kits on automatics is true, and get the jist on exactly what this kit (esp. the exhaust) is. I cannot see how having an automatic would make a difference. NAM can be a great resource, but it can also be an unfounded rumor mill full of misinformation.

You are right. They will not--yet--according to my service advisor. But he did not know specifically why, other than emissions issues with the ECU tweak or that the Aisin auto cannot hold up to the extra what 20hp and 20 f/lb of torque, which I find hard to believe. I know folks that have JCW airboxes and exahusts on their R53 autos with no problems... wtf

Nope, since Im getting an auto I am SOL

Well I was planning on buying a 09 MCS auto, but if they can't do a stage II kit by the end of of the year it's probably a deal breaker for me.

Nope, no JCW Stage I for automatics.

Going Wed to check out a factory JCW.... just hate to give up an automatic.

if U build a factory JCW there's no option for the automatic trans, the primary reason I did not get one, and figured to just go Stage 1. But now I can't do that.

What a disappointment.

There's a whole thread on the AT/JCW dilemna in the R56 forum. It's no go unfortunately.

I don't believe that there would be enough of a demand for automatics matched to a Stage II JCW factory package to justify MINI's investment in properly designing such a combination. Not many enthusiasts willing to pay for the addititional JCW performance would want to compromise the performance by opting for an automatic.

perhaps, but the Stage 1 should be made available to both crowds-- just because Im getting an auto (medical reasons, bum left knee) doesnt make me less of an enthusiast. And how would the performance be "compromised"?

An automatic transmission is a compromise in that it sacrifices performance ( a half sec or more in the o-60 times) in favor of around-town ease of use.

I can sympathize with the bum knee. Mine's on the left side, but fortunately the throttle pedal is a bit lighter than the clutch.

Complete hogwash..... they've already got the kit for the manuals.... it's a matter of tweaking the fuel tables for whatever is causing it to be lean or too rich that it won't pass emissions.

It's like they have to redesign the entire thing, it's an air filter, exhaust and a tune.

Two or three of our members already have the Stage I kit on their automatics and have NO problems. No CEL lights, nothing, works fine.

It's just that CA has stupid CARB and it won't pass their requirements. It'll work on the other 49 states.

Can ya tell I'm a little upset by Mini and their ability to ditch something that would take so little to make it work.

PS. The fact that Mini isn't following through with making the JCW for the auto is complete hogwash... not the poster I was quoting.....

Not in the least, OC

Oh well, now I can take that $2,300 and put it towards a Paul Reed Smith guitar, a very nice one at that....

dunno man, get out on the highway with a MCSa and the 3456-6543 shifts are smooth and *instant* with no torque converter intrusion at all-- the shifting seems and feels faster than what my left foot right foot right hand could manuever to change one gear.

besides, another reason I decided to spring for the auto is that my 2005 R53 was plagued by defective clutch/DMF problems-- no more BMW product manuals for me, even if I bought an M.
