to losing President Wellzy and me this past Saturday. We test drove the 2008 Lotus Elise SC and almost decided to sell our Coopers and start our own snobby club. Then we remembered Boop and Missy Mowse and their accumen with rolling pins. We chickened
out but HOLY CRAP what a car!!
out but HOLY CRAP what a car!!
(Sorry to butt in since I'm not with Burning River MINI club, but I just had to comment)
I know exactly what you mean. I drove my buddy in Portland's Lotus Exige-S 220 and it is a monster of a little car. Makes even a fairly modded out MINI seem pedestrian...a seriously scary fast and fun car. I think if you adjust for weight, a plain Lotus Elise (not the Exige-S or the SC Elise, those are even more HP) has the power to weight ration as that of a 270 WHP MINI but with RWD.
However, as a daily driver, it is NOT exactly easy to live with: Lots of road noise, you'll scrape/bottom out just about anywhere, you feel every little jolt/bump up through your spine, even more rattle prone spartan interior that requires a rather gymnastic entry/exit technique, a trunk about the size of a briefcase, can't see out the back, limited visibility (especially other scary drivers not seeing you!!), scary to park/un-park, tires that can't be rotated easily (different sized asym's front and back), $$$, etc. Great weekend/play/track car. It would drive me nuts if I had it as my only car.
Oh, we gave up on the rear view mirror and took it down and installed a V1 in it's place. Much more useful.
For the buck, it's still hard to beat a MINI for an all around great/fun car, but man is that Lotus fast and grippy...

Its gotta be a short (mini) skirt if you're in a MINI! And do Scotsmen wear anything under their kilts?!?!
