Colorado English Motoring Conclave 9/13 - 9/14

Conclave is a British term for Private Meeting.

The 2008 Colorado English Motoring Conclave will be held September 13th & 14th (Saturday & Sunday). This two day event is based out of Oak Park in Arvada and starts with a "Ride the Rockies" drive on Saturday at 10am. Registration is from 8:30 and 9:30 AM at Oak Park and the destination is always a secret. On Sunday the car show will be held. Arrive at Oak Park around 7:00 AM (no later than 8:00 AM). Ribbons are awarded at 2 pm. There will be food and vendors as well as a swap area. Last year’s show had 11 English car clubs and over 500 entries. Our club had a strong showing with nearly a dozen cars lined up and looking good.

As an added bonus and incentive – each MINI5280 member that participates in the car show on Sunday will get breakfast (or a reasonable proximity thereof) and a free MINI5280.org clicker in your choice of colors.

So motor with other British cars on Saturday and show off your MINI on Sunday.

For more details visit the Conclave website at:

Oh BTW, I need three volunteers to help me with our club's obligations from 12:00 - 1:00 PM on Sunday. We need to man the entry table and other show tables for an hour.

If I can get a car from work, I'll be there. I'll let you know hopefully tomorrow.

I'd like to be there for sure; though with crazy life it doesn't always work out. When do you need to know about the volunteer part Chuck?

I mailed in my registration (yes, you should all register ahead of the event) today. Don't forget about the ride on Saturday, which is fun too.

coming down from Wyoming

I mailed my registration a couple weeks ago. I think there will be 3 MINIs coming down from Wyoming. Planning to do the ride on Saturday and the show on Sunday. Chuck, let me know if you still need help on Sunday. Thanks!

Wow! That's probably a very large percentage of all the Wyoming MINIs.
I will grab people on Sunday for the 1 hour shift. See you soon.

Reminder to get your entry forms in and save some money.
We only have 10 MINIs signed up for this event, can't we do better than that?
Did I mention free breakfast burrito, coffee, OJ and grill badge?

Christine and I will be coming down, though probably only with my car. I've not sent registration in yet, though it's on my to do list. Maybe we can arrange to have MINIs meet up for the drive again Saturday.

I bet I can even be on time this year. (man I felt like a jerk showing up late last year)

Count me in for Saturday. Don't worry about last year, we still had fun even though we left a little late Glad you and Christine will be able to make it again this year.

Oops, too late for the early registrant price. Might as well wait for the day of and save myself the postage. I'm pretty sure we'll be there for both, but my procrastination won out over pre-registration and I'm still in for the long haul.

Ride 'em Rockies

Note that the Saturday Ride the Rockies portion of the Conclave has vehicles assembling at Oak Park beginning at 8:30 AM. This is where you get your instructions for the mystery ride route. This year's ride features a "gimmick rallye", so bring your navigator! The ride leaves at 10:00 and ends at a mystery location for lunch. Sounds fun!

Y'all are forgetting the most important reason to go

to the Conclave:

Oodles of people come by and say 'Cute Little Car - Can I sit in it?" (children and elderly men and young women) and so you get to let oodles of people sit in your car.

I have sold 6 or 8 vehicles in the last 5 years for Schomp, encouraging folks to sit in other people's cars. Especially the convertibles.

Nothing like a test drive.

Here is my Car Show Question/Answer Guide (free of charge):
Q: Is that a real car?
A: Yes, it is a MINI Cooper built by BMW in England.
Q: Where are all the clowns?
A: So you're a comedian? Well the clowns don't work car shows.
Q: What kind of mileage do you get?
A: I get about 28, but it would be better if I didn't drive so fast.
Q: How fast does that go?
A: You will have to ask the police or my attorney.
Q: Do you fit in there?
A: Easily. As do my wife and two daughters - at the same time.
Q: How much is that thing?
A: If you have to ask you're not quite clear on the concept.
Q: Aren't you afraid of getting run over by a truck?
A: No, I'm faster.
Q: Can I sit in it?
A: No, and please get your ice cream covered kid off the door.
Q: Can I take a picture?
A: Yes but please get your ice cream covered kid off the boot.
Q: What's a boot?
A: The part of the car that your ice cream covered kid is on.
Q: Oh, you mean the trunk?
A: No, the boot.
Q: So where can I get one for my wife?
A: The boot comes with the car which can be found at Ralph Schomp MINI.
