R50/53 Does anyone have the factory installed mp3 cd player yet?
Might be helpful information..
I have not seen anything about a factory installed mp3 player. There are ways to use the i-pod as an attachment to the radio though.
In my last car, I installed a Rockford Fosgate top line cd/cdrw/MP3 player. I really enjoyed the unit, but found that when listening to music at high volumes, the qulality of the ripping (bit rate) of each track came into play. I was typically using 128, but found that low end attenuation happens, and that much higher sampeling rates were necessary. This ended up cutting down the number of tracks I could fit on a disk to about 40 (using 192 as a absolute min rate, and optimal at 320). This did really help the situation.

I was referring to the mp3 compatable cd player that was supposed to come out on the 2004 models. I read about it on the Bridger site and was wondering if it actually was available yet.
>>When I ordered my Mini I wanted the MP3 cd player so I asked my dealer about it. They told me that there is no MP3 cd player, just an aux in port. I wish they had the MP3 cd player though
I heard the same thing from my dealer as well

I forgot where I read it (I think it was at that other site), but I recall someone said it is planned to be a phase-in for July 2004 production. So technically it will be for 2004 models; just that most of the 2004s won't have it.
I wished my 2004 would have it, but I have given up that wish a while ago.

I'm planning on getting the Alpine I-Net bus mp3 cd-changer. With the blitzsafe adapter, it will bolt in and be usable with steering wheel controlls. I just installed the set in a 2002 BMW 3 series. The cars are prewired and its all plug and play. It's money.
