My MINI came in. Few Questions. tinted windows? Rear Cup holder?

So I finally picked up my Astro Black Mini Cooper yesterday and I love it.

I didn't notice the windows where tinting until this morning when I parked next to another Mini Cooper. I am not complaining or anything, but when Did Mini start tinting Windows? is this a new thing?

I am talking about all the windows & Sunroof are tinting, except the windshield which is illegal in NY.

Also, the rear single cup holder in the middle of the car seems bare. No trim or anything. You can even see the screw on the bottom. Is this normal? Any options that I can add to make it look nicer?

Thanks, yeah that's what I figured. I didn't ask for the tint, but I am not complaining about it. Glad to see the sunroof tinted. It's 90 degrees here in NY today and my car doesn't seem that hot.

I'm gonna try to find some sort of rubber cup holder for the back. I am also looking at those rubber inserts for the center console http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop...age_liner.html

minspeed.net also has a rubber insert that goes under the e-brake. I bought both of them and I am happy with them.

Virtually all cars have light tint, if yours is darker then someone did this after delivery. Did you build your car or buy off the lot? I can't imagine the dealer would tint it for free so maybe there's a line item on the sticker for it.

Thanks! I didn't know another one was available! Does the one for under the brake affect the hand brake in any way?

It has a darker than normal tint. I will post pictures soon. I built my car from scratch. Week 26 build.

Is window tinting something you can specify when you order? Is it dealer installed or do they put in different factory glass?

ah I see. We have 3 dealerships here on Long Island and a few in NYC so not all Mini's are from the same place around here. Like I said earlier, I never ordered the tint, I just thought it was odd since my windows were noticeably darker than a mini I parked next to.

Tint

My clubmans windows had a slight tint to it...but it was WAY to bright for me...I had them tinted 35%...Looks gorgeous i have the PW/Blk combo and it just looks great.. Since the windows are small, if I had gone darker, it would have looked too pimped out and that not what I wanted

Tinting is defiantly a dealer option, glad you are happy with it.

If you look in the front cup holders you can see the screws there as well. Some users have made little covers out of laminated plastic with different designs to go down in there and give it a more finished look.

I hardly ever use the rear one and currently this is where my ash tray/coin holder lives.

Do note that the anthracite headliner and seats can make the interior seem darker, which could make it seem like you have a darker "tint" than what comes from factory glass. Automotive glass generally has a slight tint, but I also noticed that mine was darker than my girlfriend's R50, but she doesn't have an anthracite headliner like myself. If the dealer didn't add tint after it arrived, the anthracite is probably fooling your eyes. But I'd say go for tinting anyway. After getting Carbon all around, it looks even sharper.

Yup. I'll remove it altogether if anyone ever rides in the back on a regular occasion, but since they made the front cup holders more capable, I'm happy with that

I belive that factory tinted glass is an option for Minis in Europe. When I was playing around with the configurator for my Mini I visited the Euro Mini sites to see the differences in option and facotry tints were an option.

Maybe they put the wrong glass in during production.

Looks like someone might be driving in Europe with out tints after paying for them.

wbarnhill: I was thinking the same thing with the the anthracite headliner making the windows darker.

Geekswrath: I wanted to buy my ashtray in the rear cup holder as a coin holder, but it doesn't seem to have a good fit. it's kinda loose. Any suggestions to keep it in place?

Mines a little loose as well, it is in the fronts also once you remove the little rubber grippers. I haven't done anything to mine and after ~7k miles I haven't even noticed it was there (no rattles, squeaks, etc).

Here's my before and after:

Comes in with 'no' tint, though the windows do appear to have slight color. I used 35% in the 'after' shot.

Not sure why anyone goes to Outmotoring to get OEM accessories. Just got mine from Morristown Mini for $6.60

Does Morristown Mini have more than what's on their website? Do they have a catalog?

They are a dealer, so they have any and all OEM accessories. Just get a hold of a 2008 accessory brochure from your dealer to see what is available.

Got one of those. Thanks. I'll be looking for some yellow color line for my soon-to-be 09 MCS. I found it on realoem.com, but I guess I'll have to order it through a dealer.
