New Whalen shift **** and redline leather stuff installed!
So I ordered a whalen shift **** on monday or tuesday and it got here on friday. I must say, the customer service from Doug is the best I've had in ages. It's great to see someone who still cares about their customers. But, even more importantly, it's a great product. Has a nice little weight to it, the craftsmanship is great, and I just love the look. My ONLY issue with it, and it's not really Doug's fault, is he didn't have the shade of green for my stone that I would've liked. Apparently, it's just hard to find a variety of stones in the size/type he uses. No big deal, still looks great, imo!
Also, ordered the redline stuff on a friday, was here the next saturday. (here is in the middle of the country, MO). Remarkable quality. I got the two shift boots and downtube covers. Absolutely wonderful leather and, again, craftsmanship. One problem: the downtubes. They didn't have the...clasps? to help hold them on. I don't know it this is a new design or what. But it doesnt look like in the pictures. I had to use a hot glue gun to hold it in place and on the passenger side this caused a little slack. I'll go back and fix it one of these days but looks good for the most part!
I also painted the ac vent/speed guage surrounds today a metallic green. I've got the two green viper stipes down the center of the car and i'm trying to bring that theme inside. Hence the green quad stitching on the boots and downtubes!
Next, I'll be replacing the dash with a carbon fiber JCW one and painting the rest of the silver pieces piano black, probably. Also open to suggestions on that to what people might think would look good and, if i paint all that, how to best change the color of the wiper switch?
Anyways, here's pictures:

Translucent paint
I have seen this spray paint, possilby made by Krylon, that is color tinted clear coat. Looks cool painted over silver metalics, like the MINI down tubes and trim rings.
I have seen it used over silver painted auto rims, and it looks awesome. I would imagine that it would be clear enough for graphics and stuff to show through as well.
I have seen it in: red and blue, and I am sure they make green as well.
Very nice job on your MINI, I can see a lot of thought went into your mods. Nice work
