Best Subwoofer Install for the $$
Hey guys, I just wanted to share with you the subwoofer setup I went with. It cost a lot less than the custom boxes that companies are and I think you end up with more usable space. It's a low profile pioneer box and 10" sub and it hits pretty hard. It sounds way better than my previous 4Runner with 2 Alpine 10" in the back.
The parts I used were:
Pioneer TS-SW2541D 10" Low Profile Sub
Pioneer UD-SW10B Shallow Sealed Enclosure
Alpine MRP-M350 Mono Amp
Also did an Alpine 9811 head unit with the iPod attachment which was easily the best upgrade, you have to change that head unit if you want the system to sound decent. The stock speakers aren't half bad.
I wired it all up with a Rockford kit from Best Buy (not the best, but this isnt a competition system).
Check out the pics. The best part about th ebox, other than the absolute perfect fit, is the fact that when the seats are down it makes the floor flat and I never worry abotu hurting the speakers.
The box, sub, and amp were about $350 and I did the install myself with the $40 kit.
Give me your feedback if you've used a similar setup. I haven't heard of anyone else in here using these components, but I think it came out as good as I could have imagined.

I considered the Pioneer enclosure, but I wanted a flat surface for cargo and to keep dirt and things off the sub's diaphragm.
When the seats are down it's pretty much one flat surface. I can slide almost anything around in the back and not have to worry about damaging the sub or wires. A steal mesh covers the sub, and the felt material keeps out the dust. Sound is not hindered. What I like most is that unless you're looking for it you don't really notice it or know what it is with the cover in place.

I dont have a MFSW so I didn't have to worry about the controls. I really miss the cruise control though...
Minian, that setup is sick. So clean.
PGT, do you mean under the rear seats? Like under the removable cushion? I'm interested in modifying the setup to make it a little cleaner.

You have a nice setup, I considered the Pioneer enclosure, but I wanted a flat surface for cargo and to keep dirt and things off the sub's diaphragm.
I have the same Sub, but everything is out of sight under the panels including a 1000w Pioneer amp. It's been installed for 2yrs now. It's a great sub. I had to dial it down a bit. ($375 Total)

Nice job!!! That really looks sharp. Any advice on where I can find the carpeting you used to cover the box? I'm a drummer in a few bands and I'm familiar with a covering that's always been referred to as "mouse fur"....it's that close-pile carpet that is on almost every speaker cabinet, PA speakers and really any car audio speaker enclosure. Anyway, thats what it looks like you have. Where'd you get it?

Any audio shop who does custom jobs will have the material. One day I'll color match the car.

Do you have the dimensions of the recessed area? From looking at your amp vs mine, I think mine is more square and might have issues with the one of the dimensions.
I really like the idea of hiding the amp, I really dont like the idea of me having to take apart the interior again!

my subwoofer solution
I basically built a "down-firing" 10" sub enclosure with space for the amplifier built in. This way, I can remove the whole thing in about 2 minutes for track days. I couldn't find any "mouse fur" so I used Industrial Door Mats to cover the metal under the back seat and the sub-box so it all looks "fairly" clean.
