Need a substitute for In-n-Out Burger
Need a substitute for In-n-Out Burger
Okay, I admit it. I'm a California transplant. And I love, love, love Colorado more than you can imagine over the other place. However, there are two things I really miss (other than my family).
1) Disneyland. But that's not a problem as I can get my fix every couple years when I visit.
2) An In-n-Out Double Double - Animal Style. This is more of an issue as I never went more than a month without a fix for the past 2 years. As there are none of these east of Las Vegas I am at a loss. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good substitute? I'm really jonesin' for a fix here.
Thanks!!

Las Vegas is good. We drove to New Orleans and had our first taste of In-n-Out. This was after four years of starving undergraduate style in NoCal.
I know there was a pizza in CO thread a while back. You should really consider starting a burger thread too, so we'll know where to go when we head back.

You, it may not be In-and-Out
but if you give SONIC a chance (Oklahoma institution) you might find some degree of satisfaction. Truly Drive-up food, and most have outdoor seating, one of the most redeeming things aside from the burgers is HAPPY HOUR from 2 to 4 pm daily. Daily. Most drinks 1/2 price. Try the Route 44 Diet Strawberry Limeade, extra strawberries. At HH, only about $1.49 for a monstser drink. Extra Strawberries....no charge.
For indoor dining, you cannot beat Red Robin, a local CO chain. 21 CO locations, mostly front range, but also Grand Junction. Luscious burgers, unlimited steak fries, young service. Very kid friendly.
But for a real treat, not a chain, it has to be Conway's Red Top in Colorado Springs. Wear an old shirt, you are gonna get it on you. 3 non-descript locations, you will need both hands for these bad boys. And they all come with Velveeta.....right off the Interstate, easy to find.
Worth a try....

Good Times? Shack Burger? smashburger?
Agree. Nothing like a In-n-Out Double Double. Vegas is too far, except once a year for AMVIV. A friend at work is a huge fan and has tried to convince In-n-Out to expand to the Denver area -- to no avail. He wears his In-n-Out Hawaiian shirt every Friday.
For convenience (fast) we like Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard, which started in Colorado, so there are many locations here. They feature Coleman beef. Outdoor tables, except a few locations with in/outdoor tables. The custard is good too.
My all-time favorite is the Shack Burger, which is topped with a split Louisiana hot link. My first Shack Burger was a long time ago at the original Shack Burger restaurant in Playa Del Rey (southern Calif., near LAX, on the beach. Now right here in Littleton is The Shack Sports Grill ! I need a Shack Burger fix.
The 7/25 Denver Post had an article about "smashburger" (fast-casual) expanding in the Front Range with 5 stores right now. See http://www.denverpost.com/business/ci_9989092 . Has anybody visited a smashburger (http://www.mysmashburger.com/ )? I think I'll check out the Broadway (Englewood) location this weekend!

Here's information on them and their locations. You should try them out!!
I love sonic too -- Next time I go I'll try a burger. I'm a creature of habit -- I always get a coney dog when I'm at sonic.
I slept fine, just woke up early thinking about MITM, 5280, blah blah blah. It will catch up with me tonight. Then it's Ground Hog day, again...
Just go an update from my wife. Smashburger is very good. She likes the chicken burger. Time for a trip to smashburger.

Yeah, Smashburger is good, they even put real jalapeno on my burger
which totally hit the spot... but still can't beat In-N-Out.. Try it for yourself. I went to the one on Arapahoe and Dayton. It is always packed during lunch hour....

Best burger in town is at the Cherry Cricket. Red Robin has good burgers too. Both are sit down though. Fudruckers is very good too.
Robert you were at Sonic, did you not try a burger there? I lived 8 years in Tulsa and last week was only my second time to a Sonic. Nothing to write home about, but they do have corn dogs.

Thanks for all the great places to try. I've has Sonic before. They're good but not quite a match. I've not tried their corn dogs though. They're shakes are some good eatin too. I'm a big fan of Red Robin's Bleu Burger and Fuddruckers is a good one too but they are not I-n-O.
I'm going to try Old School Burgers this week. I'll let y'all know.

I was not impressed with Old School Burgers, but I have only been there once.
You should venture up north with me one day and eat at Jim's Burger Haven....now those are GOOD burgers!!!!

Alright, I tried Old School Burgers and it was damn near close!!! They are quite obviously trying to make a In-n-Out knock off burger and they are doing a good job. I also like the fries. If you like In-n-Out, you'll probably like these guys' food.
That being said, OSB did not do it on atmosphere. The workers were nice for the most part but I got a little Aurora Attitude from a few of them. And they could have done a better job keeping the place clean and tidy. I do not think I realized how much of the In-n-Out experience is due to the bright clean place and nice (well paid) workers.
03, I can understand them not being to your liking. I think In-n-Out is a cult food. Either you love them or you don't. I'd love to try Jim's. Where north is it?

You too?
We did SmashBurger tonite.
The burger was good, but expensive. When you order the fries and drink combo, the whole thing approaches $10. No chance I would pay that for lunch, not even close. Further, the 3 of us can do good pizza with salad for less than that up on the corner.
It was tasty, and they were OUT of jalapenos when we were there. I will go back if someone asks but not as a routine. Red Robin is every bit of that, even better, what with unlimited fries. And you get a waitress.

I think OSB is the closest thing we have to In-n-Out Burger. And sadly, there is no substitute for Trader Joes. *pout*
I would also recommend Crown Burger. Located around Colorado Blvd and E Evans. I find them to be quite tasty.

Sorry, There is NO substitute for In-n-Out in Colorado. Fresh Cut Fries!!!
Sonic is not even close.
Cherry Cricket, Elways or Larkburger (Vail-Edwards, Co) are the best burgers in the state.
