Installing a Harman Kardon Amp

I just purchased a used '03 MCS. It originally had a HK system in it, but the amp was missing. I found a salvage amp and went to plug it in today but got nothing.

Is there more to installing this amp than just plugging it in? Is there more than just the one plug? Does it actually need to be grounded? I just plugged it in without bothering to screw everything in place just in case this situation happened)?

Thanks in advance for the help.

First, this may help in understanding what all the wires in the bracket are doing.

(Thank Ian for that)

Second, from what I can remember since the last time I pulled mine out, the wiring harness contains all you need, power, speaker connections, HU connections, ground, etc. So it's pretty much just plug-in and go.

Have you been going without music since you purchased it?

Thanks for the help. I was afraid of that. I think I am just going to pull everything out and start over with aftermarket parts.

No problem. I hope you didn't pay much for the salvage amp.

Did you check the back of the HU to make sure that the HU's harness was seated properly?

I just purchased an '05 cabrio. The PO installed a Pioneer AVH-p5700DVD head unit that works and sounds nice, but I am thinkign I want the orginial H/K system. So, I might need an amp and definately a HU. First I need to look and see if the amp is missing. Can you tell me where it is located so I can look. Also, how much do you want for yours, if you sell?

Passenger side in the boot.

There is a panel on that side that you can pop out... if you have an H/K amp there will be a black box sitting on the left side. You won't see the wire harness unless you take it out since it's on the other side of the amp.

This is correct for the hardtop...the H/K amp in the cabrio is under the passenger seat.

EDIT: I'm also showing a different part number for the amp in the cabrio.

Makes sense that the cabrio would have a different part number since the acoustics would be very different over the coupe. So, first I need to see if mine is still under the seat. Second, i would need to source a cabrio unit...good luck on that one. Might have to keep the aftermarket especially since I found out last night that it has an Ipod adapter that works very well.

The H/K amp in the R52, aka the 'vert, aka the convertible, aka the topless MINI, is under the passenger seat. How's that?
