Merlin Gets New Socks and Shoes....

Not that I am a wheels and tires nut....but we wanted to ditch the run-flats. Took Mike a while to find what he wanted - so here they are....18" Drag DR-19 Wheels and 215/35R18 General Exclaim Tires....

D/M, by now you should know that we like prices on cool items.

What did you do about a donut spare?

How smoothe is the new ride?

We got a great deal - entire package for a hair over $1000. Only because we've been dealing with this same person at Discount Tire for several years - and hubby being a Distribution Manager for Southern Wine and Spirits - well - cough...cough....what can I say - the salesman likes Tequila...

We have no spare.............

The ride is VERY smooth......

There aren't that many out there that fit the Clubman - different lug set up than the other models....

It's a bummer about your rim - that really stinks... Nope - not going to lower it. Too many of those darn "BUMPS" around here -

Thanks! I agree about the skinny rubber. When Mike first brought the car home after having them put on - I kinda looked sideways at him and said the exact same thing....not much rubber on them things.... But he's happy with them and that's what counts...

que que? same as the late model R53's and R56's right? 14mm and 4x100.

225/35/18 is a better size but slim pickings on tire choices (F1 Asymmetric and Proxes T1R)

Well at the next meet up we should all take a pic of our cars together. It would look cool.

Ditching the runflats is the way to go.
I know some people are afraid that they will get a flat tire a great distance from home.
But lets be real for a moment here, how far do you think you're going to drive on a FLAT runflat tire?
I can tell you from personal experience that when my right front tire went flat the 6 mile drive home on the runflat was painstaking horrific.
The amount of noise coming from the tire made it sound like the front of the car was grinding away.

So now I have Goodyear Eagle F1 All Season and they cost half the price of the runflat so I can actually have a spare rim and tire at home just in case I get a flat.
If I'm far from home it would be no different with a runflat, I would still have to call MINI rescue to come get me (or AAA).

I dont have run flats either. Just carry a high quality patch kit and a small compressor. If the tire is more damaged then what I can patched I will just call my insurance company.

Donna and Mike... Can you take some more pic's of the rims and your car? I want to get a better idea how mine will look. Since we have similar color Mini's.

Thanks for the great comments all.

I'll take more pictures this week (hopefully). Maybe Mike can do it since I'll be getting home late every night (Comic Con is in set up mode).

We've never carried a spare. And yes we've gotten a flat. We carry the same as others have posted - a patch kit and an air compressor. Or we call AAA.... We've also bought tire insurance each time - so a new one is only $15... And we also keep our fingers crossed - LOL!!

Donna/Mike,
What's the "different lug setup" for a Clubman ? How is it different?

I like the wheels. Found them @ Discount Tire's website. Good looking.

There isn't anything different with the clubman...

In the late models of the R53/50, they changed from 12mm lugs to 14mm lugs. This remained true for all R56's and all R55's (clubmans). So all you have to do is find wheels with 14mm holes rather than 12mm holes. But the clubman is no different than any other 06+ MINI.

They look great and you get the added benefit of less brake dust showing up, too!

Thanks!!! And yes - I think that's why Mike picked the darker wheels this time around - we had chrome on our last MINI - they looked like crapola all the time....

Hi...been lurking for awhile and love this place...this post has really peaked my interest.

Great looking wheels!

When I finally pull the trigger later this year on a Clubman S, I'll want to ditch the runflats too. I've been wondering though what has to be done to keep the TPM system happy/functioning; I've read a bunch of conflicting info elsewhere, so Donna/Mike as you've just done it can you fill me in?

Cheers.
