Traffic violations with your MINI

Since we love to drive our mini recklessly , just wondering how many ticket violations have you gotten since you bought your mini? and how much did it cost you.

categories

1) speeding

2) red lights

I'll start: had my car 3 weeks $0, I have a feeling since i can't seem to keep my speed under designated speed at all times, it will be coming soon!!

No tickets yet..4,000 miles. When I motor on long hauls in strange areas late at night, I will maintain a just above speed limit. I realized high gas mileage - 39.5 mpg. On open roads during the day I will cruise at 10 over, and "goose" it when I need to get past LEFT LANE HANGERS!

It's not easy keeping to posted speed limits. I pick my spots for speed on the highways. In town I'm content to take turns a bit quicker than I used to with another car.

Had my MINI 15 months and so far have gotten one warning, no speeding tickets.

But, run a red light? No excuse for that.

42 in a 25, reduced to 0-9 over limit and one point.

Rolling through a 3-way stop sign.

Warning only for doing 76 (radar gun must have been broken, I was doing at least 85 ) in a 55.

Pre-MINI: I don't want to talk about it.

Liz is currently the only one hit for a speeding violation in the MINI. 70 / 55. Paid $240 and reduced to 2 points. She didn't want to deal with court.

I've had a couple on-coming cops flash their lights, one already stopped wagged his finger at me, and one on-coming turned around and stopped me. Since I was on-coming, he coudn't get a good reading that I was doing 75 in a 55 zone. Took my license, etc. then came the "So what kind of car is this?" I went into the spiel, leaving out the top speed & acceleration info, concentrating on the fact that it was new & I wasn't used to the center dial & I had no tickets & it was new, etc... let me go with nothing on paper...
But the day will came, I fear

To my surprise, I can honestly say I've never gotten a traffic violation. Ever.

However I expect to get quite a few fix-it tickets once I get my Aero kit installed and refuse to put a front license plate on it!

I think there's a difference between "Oh man, this car SCREAMS at XXX mph", and "Yeah, I've let my lead foot get away from me and got hit for XX in a XX", but that's just me.

It's just a testament to how easy it is to forget the needle creeping up in that center dial. I don't think anyone here is advocating speeding, if anything it's pointing out that one should pay attention to one's speed at all times!

Honestly, I haven't received anything in either of those two categories (knock on wood.) I've had to really watch myself since we've been back to the US - I first started driving MCS on the German autobahn (average cruising speed for me was 90mph, upwards from there when motivated!) The funny thing is that my husband bemoans my tendency to speed...but HE's the one that either gets the tickets or got "flashed" (cameras), not ME. I'm sure it's coming though...I DO so love speeding... Responsibly, of course.

If we're straying into other categories, I hit a deer in Germany with my '04 MCS. I didn't get a warning or ticket or anything since it was deer hunting season (normally they're much stricter about environmental concerns), but the politzei WERE on hand. They complimented me on my "catch;" normally I'm not a squeemish person, but I had to have them scrape the evidence off my car for me. My poor MINI!! I had to call our 24-hr duty desk to get the non-emergency politzei phone number, so word spread. My soldiers named the car "Deerslayer" after that. Much worse than a ticket.

1 ticket. Speeding. "85" (I was doing 89) in a 65 zone. New years day of this year at 8am. Massively hung over. Moto cop... Blech. $350+... Sad day...

This is the reason I call my Mini "Trouble."

I'm also a moving time bomb for fix-it tix. I've got 20% tint all around (illegal on the front windows in CA), a Euro plate on the front (no CA plate - illegal), and other assorted little things... :(

We've had our '05 MCSc for just over a year. It's my wife's daily driver, and I "borrow" it at every possible opportunity.

My wife, returning home from her night shift as a nurse at the public hospital, has been pulled over once for speeding. She got a warning.

I've gotten one ticket in the MINI, after a nice long run with no blemishes on my driving record (more due to luck than patient driving). Heading down Hwy 1, came upon "jerk in the big white pickup" doing 55 in the left lane (65 mph speed limit). I came up behind him and did an obnoxious (but fun) quick zig-zag pass on the right, thinking "move it over, jerk!" Turns out his slow speed was probably due to his having seen the subtle white Camaro behind us.

BOOM, pulled over by the CHP. No ticket for speed (though I had probably earned one), but he did write me up for failure to use a turn signal. $120 in fees plus had to do traffic school to keep the point off my record.

Allow me to offer an unsolicited recommendation for http://www.trafficschoolonline.com. Best online traffic school I could find. What made it best? Extremely easy to skip to the end of each section, take the quiz, and move on ... had my certificate in less than 30 minutes. Beats the hell out of the full weekend I had to spend in "on-site" traffic school for my last ticket 15 years ago!

No tickets in the MINI but, the day I went for my interview for current job $150 ticket for doing 54 in a 40.

After MINI, well the GPS said 100 on the highway with none around - since then 5-9 over the limit is my limit

Oh, forgot to add my silly $.02 on how NOT to get tickets! I mean, besides the sensible way GoKartRide advocates driving, that is...

Don't be obvious! If you see a cop car, DON'T slam on the brakes, especially not at night when the brake lights are VERY obvious. Downshift and don't visibly look at the cop - pretend life is normal and you're not breaking any laws, but keep down-shifting to slow yourself to a reasonable pace while keeping an subtle eye on the cop. If you see the cop-you're-not-watching slow down or start to turn around, be prepared to get pulled over, but...until they DO pull you over, ACT NORMAL and slow down w/out the brakes. I keep telling my husband this, but he never pays attention! So now I just let him get the tickets.
