Whoo Hoo!

Just ordered PW Clubman S. I'll be getting a 2009 model in October! It will be a long wait but totally worth it.

When designing the dash, I like the English Oak and the Chrome Line so I ordered both. I wonder if they will look good together? Does anyone have a picture of those two options together?

English Oak and Chrome Line look very nice together. My 07 MCSa is set that way with the leatherette and the standard headliner.

Congratulations on your Clubman S, October will be here before you know it.

Congrats on placing your order! It will be interesting for us 08 folks to see what differences you might find in yours.

I don't know how official it is but October is when I was told to expect my car. The MA said there would be a "slight" increase in price. He ran my numbers with 2008 pricing and that is what I signed for. He did say the packages would probably be configured differently and he will be contacting me when he knows the details.
I'm glad to hear the oak and chrome will look good together. It was hard to know what to order since there were very few to look at on the lot. What does the Anthracite headliner look like?

The only Clubman S they had on the lot was an automatic so I test drove a MINI Cooper S to get the feeling of 6 speed turbo. Does the Manual Clubman S drive the same?

Miki,
Good luck on the wait. My S drives even better than my 2006 MCS. It drives pretty much the same as a new S, but thats just my point of view.
You will be very happy with what you got.

Good Luck,

Larry

Miki,

I have oak + chrome on my Clubman. More pics in my gallery, if you are interested.

Not great shots but it might give you an idea of the combo.

Regards,
Terry

We ordered a 08 Clubman S to be delivered in October to us in Germany (I'm USAF soon to be stationed there). The salesman told us the prices for 09 models were going up 5-7 percent, due to Euro to dollar exchange rate, with no changes to the model. I hope you were able to lock in the 08 prices. Luckily MINI/BMW offer a sweet military sales program I was able to pick up a rather very loaded MCCS for 3k less than in the states and they will ship for free to US when my tour is up in four years!

Larry - Thanks for your opinion. It is kind of risky to buy a car without test driving the model I'm ordering but the MCS was such a blast and the reviews of the Clubman S are so great, I figured I couldn't go wrong.

Terry F - Thank you for the pictures. That is one fine looking car! I'm glad I went with the oak/chrome combo. What really caught my eye was your wood steering wheel. I ordered the leather sport wheel but may have to change to wood now that I've seen yours.

Sir Parlan - I'm in Texas, maybe our Clubbies will be shipmates. What color/options did you order?

Scott - Thanks so much for your service. You deserve any perks you get. My step son has just signed with the Marines and I'm proud of him but also scared to death.

I was recently in the same situation with ordering my MCSC. I wanted to get the base model, and they told that that I'd have to wait until mid to late November !!!! I was unhappy about that, but willing to take it so we sat down and starting talking numbers. Found out that the car being delivered would be an '09, exciting yes, and that there would be an increase in price (MA said of at least $750 on the base model, I suspected more). No pressure to place an order either way though, but there happened to be one slot of July Production left for the S version, which would give delivery in the first week in August I was told. So...not knowing how much the price would increase (assuming 750, but now hearing as much as 7% which equates to about $1400, I'm glad I ordered the S), I opted for the much lesser optioned, but still everything I really wanted in the vehicle (minus sunroof :( ) the S came out to be around $400 more. After factoring in the amount of money I'd save on gas over the course of those three months over my current car ('95 V8 Tbird ~ 18 mpg) I actually saved money on the purchase of an S model!!

Not only did I save money, I also get the car 3 months earlier, and can take it on a road trip from Buffalo NY to DC before grad school starts up! Oh, and not to mention, I got the manual tranny, which, I was not looking forward to learning in a Buffalo winter.

Good to hear that you've heard 7-9% which makes me VERY Happy about my decision (which was a tough one at first)

If our cars come in as an 09, does that mean you automatically have to pay the increase? I would think that they should give you the 08 pricing since that's what you expected to receive. At least that's what I expected to receive when I placed my order.

I was told I would be informed of what the price increase was as soon as they knew it, and that I had the opportunity to cancel the order (but would get deposit back when the car was sold) before delivery. I was also told that I would be agreeing to whatever price MINI decided to make the options I wanted and the vehicle base price increase, despite only knowing the base price for an '08.

Whoa! It better not be 7%. I think $300-$500 was mentioned. I remember my husband bringing up the falling dollar exchange rate and the MA said it WOULDN'T be anything like a thousand dollar increase.

I would have taken an 08 model but I believe all their allotments of the Clubman S were taken.

And to think I missed the 08 window by like 2 days. And I was at the dealer 5 days earlier and didn't act. Looks like my 5 day delay might cost me $900-$2100!

SirParlan,
The way I'm looking at it is we may get some of that back when it comes time for resale or trade in. We'll have a car that's a WHOLE YEAR newer than one we would have ordered a couple weeks ago. If I'm going to pay MSRP anyway I'd might as well have the pleasure saying it's a 2009.

Lightbringer, are you in Buffalo dealing with Towne Mini? I'm headed there tomorrow. Who was your sales person and were you pleased?

Towne MINI / Leasing Tip

I worked with Greg Korduba on the mini deal there...he seemed real nice and was very open about everything. I had a great experience there with him. Truth be told though, it was almost TOO good...I had been at a Honda dealer a few weeks prior and was going to sign for an 08 civic ex (felt like driving my dad's saturn but was sharp looking, and decent on gas, and I hadn't realized a MINI was in my price range at this point, silly me) and the guy there kept pushing to get me to sign on a deal. I told them what I wanted, and they kept trying to push me $5/mo here, $10/there until it came to the point where we agreed on terms, I forget the figures, but it was like 4500 down, and 165/month and he said if I put another 1k down, it'd lower the monthly payment by ~30 dollars a month. Well, he went to talk to the coach (guy who decides what cars sell for behind scenes) and they came back with something like 5500 down + tax and 160/month, at which point I asked him where that extra 1000+ went, he couldn't really explain, and I flat out left, with him begging me for another payment...it was terrible. Also, they offered me $100 for my current car as a trade in (good condition, booked ~1350 trade value).

My experience at towne was literally 0 pressure, Greg was real upfront about everything, so much so that it seemed too good to be true. (my take on it is, they know they will sell the car regardless of whether its to you or the next guy, but they all go...the cars sell themselves, so they don't have to pressure you into buying one, or play games with your head). Only thing about him was that he may seem a little too confident or something when you speak with him, you'll know what I mean when you talk with him.

All in all, I give Towne MINI an A for service. They were real helpful with everything and honest with you. Also, they will tell you where and what you can get aftermarket and things of that nature too.

Oh, little tidbit of info....if you're planning on leasing a vehicle (with or without intent to buy, doesn't matter) Put AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE DOWN on the car. If you run the numbers the financing company makes more money with a low monthly payment over the life of the lease (hmm...go figure, they're always advertising 'Low payments, come in now' ). If you take the money you were going to put down, set it aside or something, and divide it out using a higher monthly payment, it works out in your favor. Also, if you crash the car, you don't lose that 4 or 5k you put down on it, because you DONT get that back. It's not your car until you buy it outright, so why put the financial backing on a car that's not yours?

If you'd like, I can post a spreadsheet in a few days or so (going camping this weekend, back on sunday) or email it to you to show you how it works in your favor to pay more per month. Also, search Edmunds.com, they have an article on it that's pretty good.

Sooo...in conclusion, yes, I am in Buffalo, and Yes, I went to Towne MINI, and YES it was a great experience. (Also, spoke to Bill (? I think ?) who was a bigger guy, sits in back right of lobby, he was pretty nice about things too...I took like 3 test drives or something like that and he was there for one of them, real helpful guy).

P.S. Don't test drive one unless you have the means to purchase, because once you drive one...there's no turning back (the base is fun, the S is just silly fun). Take note of the GIANT smile on your face afterwards too.

Good luck, and let us all know how it goes...sorry for the long response, hope this helps someone out there.
