MC40 fog lamps not working

I just bought a 2004 MCS a few weeks back and its a mc40 package car with the second set of "ralley Lamps" mounted on the front of the upper grille(not the ones mounted in the bumper). Anyways they are not working so I checked the bulbs, and the wires to the backs of the bulbs, and looked at the fuses in the cabin and engine area. The 2nd set fog lamp control button lights up to the left of the steering wheel, but does nothing when depressed.

any thoughts on what to check ??

Thanks ahead of time

Factory driving lights are tied to the high beams....they only can come on when the high beams are on....

This is the 'legal' way to install them.....

Wow do i feel dumb

They work now, but what seems dumb about that set up is that you really dont want Hi-beams in fog unless these are for driving only???

either way they work and thanks you very much for helping me

Yep...that's the difference.

The fog lights are mounted low and can be turned on indep' of the headlights (at least that's how they are on my 7)

While the driving lights are augmentation to high beams; mounted high and wired to augment only..... Some states that actually do safety inspections even check that driving lites are wired like this, or so some have said....I've never encountered it and have installed driving lites on their own indep circuit for folks.

You could change the factory setup. There's a yellow wire that runs from the relay assembly on the driver side over to the control module in the pass footwell...that wire ties to the highbeam trigger line and controls the driving lites only coming on if the high beams are on. (That line goes hot when the high beams are on) Break that wire and take it to any 'always on' wire and the lites can come on whenever you wish....but perhaps contrary to the law.... (I've installed a few sets of the factory lites for folks...)

The high mount position of these lites makes the possibility for trouble from poor aim a serious concern......hence 'high beam only' use.
