I've been around here for a couple weeks now and the enthusiasm for these cars is unbelievable. It's really been a pick-me-up as I wait for things to fall into place so I can get my very own MINI.

The guys I work with have no use for ANY vehicle unless it's a truck or SUV and God forbid it's not an American car (though Japanese SUV's seem to be tolerated). I haven't mentioned that I'm getting a MINI yet because it opens up a whole bunch of ribbing. Don't get me wrong they're great to work with and they will never change my mind about what I drive, but the constant jabs at what I chose to drive get really old and tiresome (though I don't let on because that encourages them). I don't especially care for their choices of vehicles but I don't bother them about it, just wish they'd do the same. Of course no matter what they say I'll be getting the MINI and I'm not parting with the M3 (yet) which annoys them to no end.

Anyway, the title of this is "Thanks for your support" because it's so nice to be able to check into MCO during my day at work (until they block it on me) and get a little injection of MINI fever. I know I'm making a great decision with the MCS and it's nice to hear from people who are intelligent enough to understand that.

So THANKS, for making the day pass more quickly, for reaffirming that I'm not insane for buying a "piece of junk" as one person I work with described the MINI (idiot!), and for opening my eyes to all the goodies I can get once the car is parked in my garage (I already orderd a glovebox organizer).

I just got a set from a friend, but noticed that they have SUVs, New Bugs, PT cruisers, a Viper, but no trucks?

Anyway, I would love to put some on my MINI, but am genuinely afraid to do so.
Living in truck country (TX), it's already threatening enough for some to see such a 'thang' as a MINI driven on public roads, and I fear that bogey stickers would bring some over the top! I am thinking of making some magnetic bogeys so I can remove them easily.

Anyway, great to hear about your MINI excitement, Robyn, reminds me of the 7 months I spent waiting for my MCS after ordering it. MINI fever every day!

It's great to hear your enthusiasm Robyn!

Cheers,
Markus

I put them on my car, and have had a very mixed response...some people love them, and then there are the haters..
But I would be careful down there in TX, woo we!

Robyn,

Most of us have experienced the usual co-worker ribbing,

"Hey, where's the other half of your car?"

"You know how to tell when a British car is out of oil? It doesn't leak anymore."

My suggestion to quiet these wags, is to find the biggest, meanest, most obnoxious one of all, and offer him a ride. Just let him experience what the MCS will do, and I guarantee that when he can speak again, his comments will be vastly different. Then with him no longer leading the ribbing, the others will stop.

Just my $0.02.

I couldent agree with this statement any more! A good friend of mine at work was constantly giving me grief about the MCS, then we went out to lunch and I drove like a madman.

The next day, this co-worker who had gone to an amusement park (six flags to ride rollercoasters), was caught by me red handed on http://www.miniusa.com building a cooper himself!!!
He said "I went to great america last night, took a lot of rollercoaster rides, and all I could think was this is just like riding in the mini."

You could try a little macho psychology on them. Quote the bumper sticker:

"I drive a MINI. What are you compensating for?"

Jerseygirl,

You should come work for BMW, I never got ribbed for buying a MINI! He he he. I'm glad you're enjoying your time here on MCO. I have also started ordering things for the car even though it isn't at the dealership yet (should be tommorrow).

Have fun motoring,

Cabbage

Don't let the red-necks get to you - yes I can say that I'm from Alabama. Had some guys around here start calling me MINI-Man when I got my MINI.

Yeah! ... what they all said! ... also, it probably won't do any good, but you could point out to them that your Z3 is Made In the USA (So.Carolina) and that the X5 SUV is built there too ... and that a few of their beloved pick-em-ups are made in Canada! (... not that there's anything wrong with that)

But in the end, you'll not change most of their minds (like when they argue about Ford vs. Chevy) ... you'll just have to live with the inner peace of Knowing you are right, and they are close-minded ...

God, I would love to work for BMW! Unfortunately, my chosen career doesn't lend itself to being in very high demand in the car industry. Oh well.

I don't hold out much hope for any of the guys I work with to ever appreciate a MINI. I don't think they dislike it because they think it doesn't handle well. They just have their minds set that it's too small, too dangerous (because of all the rolling tanks on the road) and too impractical. That, and like I said, it's from German car company.

>>Sounds like y'all need some of them bogey stickers for your MINIs!

I have a sheet of those bogey stickers at home and I love them!! I'm afraid having them on the car could just be asking for trouble. I don't need to go antagonizing anyone and have them do something to my car in retaliation to "teach me a lesson".

I'm content to let the "non-believers" live in their ignorance.

Donna/Mike

the high end bimmers and vetts
I own a 2002 Z06 vette and used to own a 2003 BMW M3 (stolen) but I'm also picking up my new MCS in two weeks. I don't believe in only liking American cars, or foreign cars, etc., drive what makes you happy. To each his own.

Jerseygirl,
We are glad you are having some fun passing the time before you get your own MINI. Learning more is
part of enjoying your MINI more so it is time well spent. Before you know it you'll be motoring like us.
At my work everyone is supportive and I don't get any flak. But then again I'm the boss. I have let several
co-workers drive my MCS- they all like it. No SUV kill stickers on my doors.
