Cleaning the IC

I just pulled the IC off while installing my OCC and giving it a goos once over while it was off, I noticed I could hardly see the other side when looking in it. I took some brake cleaner and put the red straw on it from a WD40 can and becan spraying it really well. The stuff just started pouring out the other end. It looked like I was cleaning a ashtray. Well, I repeated this process several times until it was all clean. I hope the install of the OCC will stop this from happening again. Has anyone else ran into this before or after installing the OCC and how often do you clean your IC.

This is the reason to install the OCC.......keeping the oil out of the IC.

There seems to be a very large difference between cars and the amount of oil the cans collect. Some get very little and some wil get a fairly substantial amount. It can also depend on how the car is driven.

When removing the IC, do any parts need to be replaced before reinstalling? If not I could clean it once a year for OCD sake.

Only problem you might have is premature failure of the IC boots. They are kinda light weight rubber. If you plan on removing the IC frequently I would suggest getting some aftermarket boots, like the Alta ones. You can get new ones or just keep an eye out in the marketplace. They tend to show up often.

Just curious - how many miles on your car?

I recently cleaned my IC after about 25,000 miles... it had a little oil/sludge in it, but not much... I drive my car HARD.

That is not uncommon.......there seems to be a lot of differences between cars blow-by, just like HP numbers.

After 4 years and 20K Kms, I asked the MINI tech who installed my injectors if my IC is oily...he said it is very little & OK. I do not have an OCC.
