R50/53 MINI 4EVER
Iam just wondering who is planning on keeping his/her MINI 4 a real long time and not trading it in every odd couple of years.
IMO a car like this is one that you can get a real close bond with and you just dont trade it in after 2 or 3 years even though the new model might have a couple of extra's but you dont have shared the same experiences as the old one,
Or am i just carried away here.
BTW i dont have one but once i have it iam not planning o getting rid of it for a real long time.

>>We might have to share for a few years, but I'm planning on passing it on to my grandson. He'll be 6 next month.
I always get into a car planning to keep it for a long. long time. Things usually happen to change that idea - like teenage drivers who don't look both ways before entering the northbound lane and thieves. I'm beginning to suspect I'd be better off leasing.
So (knock on wood) hopefully the Mini will be the first car I own longer than 4 years.

I had a 1965 Mustang Convertible that I thought I would have forever. I bought it in 1980 and kept it till 1992, when I really needed the money. The car did exactly what I had hoped, however. Unlike buying a new car and never being able to recoup the cost, the Mustang doubled in value during the time I had it. Now, I can't say that a Mini will do the same at this point but down the road 15 or 20 years we may see a similar progression in the car's value. I plan on keeping an open mind with mine. I have a 2002 MCS, outfitted just thst way I wanted, so I am in no hurry to trade it in. However, if a new model comes out which has a good enough improvement I may consider it...down the road a piece.
Hum.......that's a tough one to answer....I know we will have it a long time - but the longest we ever owned a car was a 64 1/2 Mustang Rag Top we bought 9 years ago and just recently sold....We have a 58 MGA that we've had about 10 years and that I know we will have forever....
Maybe the MINI will be parked along side the MGA one of these days and only taken out on sunny days.....who knows, but it's just too much fun to drive right now....

My daughter is 13 and has her eyes on mine! I have taken her out for driving lessons in it a couple of times and she does pretty well (1st 2nd & Reverse only) I'll give it to her in three years and get a new one for me!

I intend to keep mine forever. It is not my daily driver, and I plan to keep it that way.
I have wanted an original mini since the first time I saw one, before I was old enough to drive. So I will
need to get one of those to go with the MINI.
I custom ordered my '02 just the way I wanted it, and had the checkers painted on the roof.
Hopefully, it is just the beginning of my collection.

I tend to keep my cars for a very long time. Before my MCS I had my car for 12 years and 125,000 miles. I have a second car that is 9 years old with 102,000 miles on it. I think I will be keeping my MCS for a long long time even though I could sell it and get a newer better model in a few years- it's just too good to part with.
As long as a car is reliable, I will drive it many miles for many years. My last car was a new 1994 Honda Del Sol. I drove it for 9 years and put 270K trouble-free miles on it. Not a single major repair - just a radiator, 2 water pumps, and the usual oil changes and brake jobs. I sold it to my nephew this summer when I bought the MINI. He'll probably drive it another 100K.
So as long as the MINI is reliable, I'll do the same.

Ya, know, the last 7 cars I owned the last 8 years, I thought I would keep forever. Then, when I bought the '03 MC, I swore that was the last MINI I ever wanted/needed.
When the '05 MCa Convertible joined the stable
(wife's), I swore again, that will be the last MINI:impatient
.....yeah, right!!!!!MINI 4EVER????....we'll see
I've never traded in a car. Every car I've owned, I've driven till it died with the exception of the car I bought for the 6 months I was in England, and the car I owned when I left Australia which I sold to a friend.
Planning on doing the same with the MINI.

For better or worse, I have developed quite a thing for my Cooper...it will be very hard for me to ever part with it. I almost traded it in about 1.5 years ago, but just couldn't do it. I just watched it drive of to be appraised and got all sentimental.
I've grown attached to the earlier Cooper styling and found new joy in the standard finishes which, in the end, are pretty darn good. It's kinda cool really...this car has completely held my fascination for over three years, and the more time I spend with it the more I find to appreciate and give me a thrill. And that's just looks/features...the motoring is better than ever!!!
I have fantasies of getting an '09, 50th anniversary model, but now I'm even hedging on that. We'll see...this could easily be a 2-MINI, one driver situation at this rate.

I have wanted another Mini ever since I gave in to the Bug revolution of the 60's and sold my Mini Minor.
When BMW took over and created the "new" MINI, my heart skipped a beat, cuz I KNEW I'd have the second chance I had always dreamed of receiving.
My Cooper is a part of my family now, and I'm not looking to sell it; hell, they may even bury me in it.

Ive thought of selling my car a couple of times, and i just cant part with it
. My mom even tells people when they ask her if i still have it, that i will never get rid of it. Its my pride and joy
. The girl im talking to now found it funny when i told her that, shes said "oh so i have compitition with a car?"
Im gonna ride this one till the wheels fall off
(knock on wood

i will have to see how long i keep mine. it really depends on what other
cars might be available down the road. mine's paid for so no issues in
just keeping it unless i need to make more room in the garage for another
weekend car. hehe

I hope to keep my MINI until a drastic change is made in transporation, such as alternative fuel or something in that realm is available. But who knows. Also, the more permanent mods I do, I figure the less sellable it becomes. Maybe, maybe not, it may just be harder to find a buyer who appreciates what has been done.
