How much for brakes down the road?

I was just curious how much brakes, rotors and pads would cost for our ClubmanS Coopers and on tire rack, the brake kits suggested were astronomically priced at around $2,613.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I also discovered that the low dust pads have weaker stopping power, so the trade off for dust compared to saftey with the dusty devils is not exactly worth it. I would love to hear from those more mechanically inclined than I am what you would suggest for brakes once these wear out. I see autocrossing in my near future once I buy some cheaper wheels and tires just for AutoXing. Would hate to burn up those pricey runflats!
performance characteristics of this product place it in both Performance Street and Autocross/Track categories. Caliper Color: Black Note: Front fitment. Black fixed 4 piston calipers. Drilled 2 piece vented rotors. See product details for a list of typical kit components.

Price: $2,613.00 (kit)
Estimated Availability: Special Order
Manufacturer Part #: 1A1.6029A1
Quantity: 1 2 3 4

That's pretty standard for aftermarket "big-brake" upgrades I think (see the mkV gti upgrade below for reference). Have you checked out any of the other forums that deal with motorsport to see if a big-brake upgrade is even necessary for auto-x'ing? Most of the time upgraded pads are all that are really necessary.

You might also want to post this in the "tires, wheels and brakes" forum to get a better response.

This is jumble of statements/questions that needs to be thinned.

Are you looking for the future cost of replacement brakes? Or upgrade brakes?

Are you considering said upgrade brakes for AutoXing?

Realistically unless you are doing a lot of track driving you should not need a BBK (big brake kit). Unless you just want it to look cool and spill your coffee everywhere when you stop.

BBK's do not offer much advantage for Autoxing. Rotors are heavier slowing your acceleration, and you should not be braking that much anyway to matter.

There are other BBK's for around $1,000-1,500 from Detroit Tuned or TCE and a couple of other vendors, look in vendor directory.

Brake upgrade, using standard size rotors, and SS lines, better pads, brass bushings will run around $700+ install.

You can find standard rotors for $45-55 ea and good pads for about $80 an axel. X-drill/slotted are not going to help you, but they will look cool.

Also you might look at what class you want to Auto-x in before you make upgrades!

Excellent suggestions! I was curious about both upgrades for the OEM brakes and autocrossing and the price differences.

then you have to think about how much pads are going to be each time you rail on them at the course..and how often you are going to have to change them out....
