R50/53 Lost?
Has anyone else's MINI ever "disappeared" between the Distribution Center and the Dealer? I got a call from my MA last Wednesday (8/13) telling me my MINI was off the ship and I should get ready to pick it up today (8/18). I got all excited and took care of the insurance, etc. The truck hasn't shown up yet. I'm getting worried. If it's been irreparably damaged or lost forever it can't be replaced -- they discontinued Velvet Red.
Relax (I know, easy to say). It sometimes takes longer than expected to get through the distribution centre. At least your car didn't get caught up in a dock strike like mine did.
Thanks for trying to cheer me up, but
ASK-MINI has a new system and can't track vehicles past arrival at the port. (Southhampton)
My estimated delivery date is 8/13. I got the call from the dealer saying the car would be there on Thursday, 8/14 (well before the blackout) and I could pick it up today, 8/18. The car never got to the dealer.

First...Welcome to MCO!
As Minigirl said, the whole tracking thing is flawed. Your car will get there when it gets there...and unfortunately the tracking info tends to give you the idea that you have some insight into the timing and process. "Some" maybe, but particularly once the car leaves the dist center, you really are in the twilight zone. Most dealers know this and refrain from calling you until your car is on their lot along with all of its requisite paperwork (yes, it's possible for the car to be there w/o the paperwork, which necessitates an additional wait). I'm surprised that your dealer would jump the gun like this.
This time of year the supply channel is flooded with cars as they're shipping the end of 2003 production. Just give it some more time and you'll be motoring soon!

Relax, your car isn't missing. I went through a similar thing with my car. My car got to the dealer a week after the OL's estimated delivery date. After it was offloaded from the ship it sat for 2 weeks on the pier waiting to get into the VPC.
However, it showed up at my dealer the day after ASK-MINI said it entered the VPC.

Hiya, minigran!
Welcome to MCO! If I remember correctly, it can take anywhere from 7-10 days for your MINI to get through the VPC. I know that seems like forever, but once you have DB, you'll quickly forget this final agony of waiting!
Well, tarnation! Had I known they offerd a parachute option I would have demanded that too!
I can tell you what will happen. You will begin to look for it, you will get frustrated and give up. You will try to be patient but the force will draw you back in. Finally, you will get a call from your dealer that DB has arrived and you will dance that little jig that you do so well. It will seem like a waste of time to have worried at all when you look back.
So, look at the pictures, listen to the other Minis motor by and remember..."Tiiiiyiiyiiyiime, is on my side. Yes it is!"

You can all say, "I TOLD YOU SO!" I got the call.
They assured me DB hadn't spent the last week in the body shop at the distribution center while they tried to find someone who remembered the formula for Velvet Red paint. Maybe they really did load him on the truck that was going to Ohio and drop him off on the way back.
Anyway, I'm picking him up tomorrow. YIPPEE!!

Hi MINIgran - Are you a grammy? I am to a 6 month old darlin' little boy. I found a stuffed doll that looks just like him (well, sort of) and he is going to be my mascot, Ty-Boy.
I ordered a Velvet Red, too, and unless they called my house while I am at work, I still haven't heard. People all around me are getting THE call! BooHoo, I feel so left out. You'll all be experienced motorers by the time my baby arrives. How about some cheese with that whine! It really does help to whine you know.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the name DB! License plate DBCUPR - hee! Wonder how many people would get it?

Now that I think about it, he's not completely wrong about that.
