Back In the Clubman Camp Again

After declining delivery of a Clubman S back in February I was back at the dealer again. I dont regret not getting the dark silver S at the time but I did not like the dark silver roof. The car came in a bit early and I guess I was not ready for it. The partially obscured rear window view from the split rear windows also was a factor. I had test driven a Rav4 in 4 and 6 cylinder models and was not impressed with the interior quality or dash design. I want to order the right color clubman in a silver roof this time. So far the Sparling silver is the front runner. I would also like to know if the factory alarm is worth getting.

All MINIs come with an engine immobilizer, so the car would have to be loaded onto a flatbed if it were to be stolen..or I suppose it can be towed... My insurance company gives me the discount for the immobilizer...so this time I decided not to spring for the alarm, though my two previous MINIs had it. Upshot - I think it depends upon where you live/park and whether you feel the alarm sounds will make a difference or not.

You're sure to get many opinions on this in time.

So you turned down the Clubman because you didn't care for the color combination - interesting. As for driving the Rav4 and comparing it to a MINI of anykind...well, can't blame you for deciding against it.

I have the alarm and the peace of mind is worth it for me.
The top of the RPM guage, dead center of the steering wheel, has a nice, big, bright, blinking red light.

You can also buy a blinking LED for short money.

I am happy to say I ordered a Clubman S in Astro Black with silver roof and sport stripes.
I never would have considered Astro Black had I not seen one on the lot. It will be an '09 with delivery in Sptember or October. (I got the factory alarm)

They fixed that rear-view blindspot in MY 2008.5

No, but you'll get used to it in 2 minutes after leaving the dealer. Next time cross-shop one of those commercial vans with no windows in the back. I agree that Toyotas seem super cheap, not just the dash and interior tho. Take a RAV4 to readline and it will scream bloody murder. A Mini will whisper sweet nothings very loudly.

It was my understanding that MINI's model year followed the calendar year, such that an '09 would not be available until January. Am I wrong?
