Things Not In My Operator's Manual

I've been through my manual twice and can't find info on the following.

-How to open the R56 hatch door manually from inside the car. I hope the battery never dies, but I'd like to know how to do this.

-What the red translucent crest on top of the tach is. It never lights up (I suppose that is good).

I must have a manual for some previous version of the R56.

Thanks in advance.

R

Haven't found any way to open the boot from the inside(but I'm pretty sure theres a way) on my R56 but the crest on the tach is for the factory alarm.

The red light on top of the tach is the blinkenlight for the optional (dealer-installed) alarm system.

I seem to recall reading in my owners manual that there is an emergency release lever for the hatch next to the shifter, under the leather boot (which apparently unclips from the surrounding trim). However there was a sheet of errata that implied that wasn't actually the case. I haven't taken apart my shift lever to check though.

I think the emergency boot opener is under the rear seats. If you pull up the bottom part theres a thing you pull.

Yeah, I double checked my manual (the PDF) and that's correct. The emergency lever under the shifter is to get it out of park if it won't otherwise. (Obviously, the standard tranny wouldn't have this lever.) oops.

OK. Consensus is that the red crest is decorative in my car, I don't have to disassemble the shifter. However, I lifted the butt part of the rear seat and found nothing that looked or felt like a handle, cable, or anything else that could be a release mechanism. A couple of large plastic covers, a few bolts.

Still at a loss.

rr, I have that $500 decorative light.
It's the alarm light.
It's only a deterrent. You can beat the window without the alarm going off.

There has to be a shock sensor installed. If you can bang your window pretty hard and the alarm does not go off I'd ask the dealer to turn the sensitivity up a little bit......personally I like the wind to blow and my alarm to sound....but that's just my preference.

Well, the red crest complements my CPR car, even though it does nothing more.

It's going to drive me to distraction until I figure out where the rear hatch emergency release is.

Thanks, Krim. I've read p23 in my manual several times. My edition doesn't have it.

However, in the bright light of our upcoming 93 degree day in humid Alabama, I will pull that seat and look again. I could have missed it in the dark tonight.

Our 2006 had it under the rear seat. I had to use it once. When I got our 2008 I found it (well something) there as well. I was pulling the rear seats to do a fabric protection job on them and found the plastic pull thing - and it was connected to NOTHING! I wonder how it transmits the fact that you pulled on it to the latch?

It's on the list of things to get checked out when I take it in August 4th.

I don't have the optional alarm system. Is there a way to fake it through the light. Now after i lock the car, it just sits with nothing blinking which may give anyone ideas that there is no alarm system and encourage break-in.

In my 2007 MCS there is a ring under the seat of the rear seats. It is in the center of the car. It attaches to a cable that will release the boot hatch. Here is a photo from my rear-seat delete project showing the floor under the seat covered with Dynamat. Normally, cable goes into the little metal bracket you can see just below the ring.

There is a thread somewhere about wanting to put a blinking LED in the alarm indicator above the tach. I don't recall anyone actually doing it, though. Try searching this forum, and the Interior/Exterior Mods forum.

You can probably use a diode and connect to a 12V power source but I'd look further into that and use a multimeter before you do anything. I've done it w/ LED's on other cars in the past but this ECU is very advanced. Perhaps the MODS forums would be better?

Something I just recently discovered after living with an OBC avg consumption readout that was 20% high for six months: the language setting in the Configuration menu controls the mpg calculation.

You can manually unlock the hatch by flipping the unlock switch near your window switches on your center console. If you want to *pop* it manually so that it opens, I think you will have to go w/ the emergency lever under the seat. Hopefully you find it. I can't seem to see it in my 08 under the seat.

Is there a section on voice commands? I don't remember seeing it when I perused the manual cover-to-cover.

Voice commands? Like you can call your MINI, and it will come, like a dog?

I have already did the dynamat in the boot (sides and bottom) tha the boot hatch. Looks like under the rear seat and side area is next. Great job on the dynamat!!!

Reference the Dynamat, Scottab36, would the installation affect the fit of the seat when put back? I presume the boot would be easy to do because you can get to the metal easily, but do you have plans to do the front floors? Aren't the 'rugs' glued down? Don't you have to cover the side panels and wheel wells to get good attenuation?

And how good is this stuff, really?
