MINI woes

Today is a very sombre day!!! MrsBean got caught in the rain for the first time since being new. Not only did it RAIN, but it HAILED too! I had to take action FAST to protect my baby, so I drove her up onto the sidewalk and under the overhang of the store to protect her from the hail... wouldn't you all do this for YOUR mini too? darn hailstorms!!! I hope no one thinks I am crazy???

Ouch... is she okay? It's bad enough having Wellington sitting alone at a port in the UK waiting for shipment... I don't even want to think about that nasty hail storm last night!

I have actually taken similar actions to protect my cars. In retrospect it is pretty stupid but I am giggling right now as I try to picture you scramming for any cover you can find. Gas stations are great for that matter. I actually carry a very strong car cover in my boot. My co-workers make fun of me as they watch me trying to put the cover on everytime I see red and orange spots over Denver on the weather.com since we do not have a covered garage.

I got some hail damage on my '03 IB/W Cooper after three months of ownership...there was nothing I could do to avoid it as I was 30 miles away from my car. The upside of the whole sad affair was that I found a great PDR guy who I have called upon to deal with several door dings over the years. I also have become quite good at tracking the weather and when hail is in the forecast, it's game on!!! Before I had covered parking, I even outran one hail storm by motoring to a nearby covered parking garage...and guess what?? There were several dozen other folks there taking cover w/ their cars for the same reason...it was like a block party!!! Anyway, now I have covered parking and go between weather radar and the parking lot to be sure that both MINIs are fully protected. And you should see them scramble up at the MINI dealership....they really pack those MINIs into any nook and cranny available when hail threatens. It's actually kinda fun to watch...they have it down to a science!!!

Yes, she's okay, just really dirty. It's driving me crazy that she is dirty lol... going to grill some burgers, then get her spick and span again. I shall post photos lol. Don't worry about Wellington. I'm sure that he'll be okay and like I said, I bet he has company on the boat over. Say, I have a great idea, when you take delivery of him, we should all meet you at Schomp and have a baby shower for Wellington LOL!!!!!!!

LOL looking back on the situation, it WAS quite funny and I bet I sure was a sight scrambling onto the sidewalk, under the overhang at CarToys LOL!!! Thanks for everyone's concern.

You're perfectly normal...don't think I didn't consider getting out and draping myself across the hood when I got caught in the hail storm the day the tornado hit Windsor! By the time I found cover under a tree in a cemetery, it had pretty much stopped by then. Very minor damage.

Poor Bean!! I left my sunroof open a bit and one of my employees came back from lunch and said "it's pouring -- did you know that you left your sunroof popped open?? Man did I go running out!!!! Thankfully I still had Bailey's sponge bob square pants blanket in the backseat and her towel in the front seat so it was all good.

I'll have to remember to close it from now on!

I loved reading all your stories! It validates for me that I am either as crazy as the rest of you, or we're all very sane and the rest of the world is nuts!

Another advantage of owning a Cabrio is less surface area to be dinged by hail. Just ask my kids, before I got a cover when hail showed up they took a blanket out and held it over the MINI (after gentle urging by their father). Guess what they bought me for Fathers Day.
Next time you're caught in such a situation, look for a Wally World and just drive in and park in automotive - that's why its called automotive isn't it?

OMG !!! Poor BEAN!! Thankfully you didn't have much of a mess. I was so beside myself, seriously lol.. I washed MrsBean after dinner tonight, towel dried her, detailed all her chrome, plastic, gave her some wheel shine and she is as good as new. She even got her engine compartment wiped too I told my husband that I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight if she remained as filthy as she was overnight. OK, now my husband says he's going to have me committed! LOL !!! I think the rest of the world is nuts!!
