My MINI is making me mad

ok for anyone who saw the earlier post, dumb door *** put a weird coating on the engine to make it look all shiny and it has just turned an off white and flaking off. After spending a good 10 hours on it trying to get it all off ( and not even close to done yet! ) i have noticed that for some reason the header has turned a whiteish color...almost as if it has had the color bleached out of it?!?! any suggestions cause it looks awful!

Of coarse before doing anything, a good brushing with cool clean water would be the starting place to get it clean and then let it air dry.

You may want to go to a autobody supply store and see if they carry any fabric paint.

You may also want to try and dye it. You can get cloth dye at any Wallgreen's or drug store around. Some grocery stores even carry it depending on where in the country you live.

A good top-of-the-line hobby shop would also be a good place to call.

Let us know what you come up with.

Just go to the maual car wash and spray entire engine bay with engine/tire cleaner that they have as one of the selections. Let it soak for a bit and then rinse off with water. Should work

I still think that this is the wax residual from when they coated it. I have simmilar thing on the fener's plastic piece. It certainly can look like it's bleached out but it is the dry wax in the pores of the plastic. Can't imagine what they would have to use while coating the engine to get your plastic header to bleach out.

You can go down to any auto parts store and pick up some engine enamel paint. Its high-temperature grade paint thats meant for the motor, but it should work on the headers as well.
