Anthracite headliner question, also picture request

Hello all,

I am putting the final touches on my build sheet, and have a few lingering questions. (Probably been asked before, but I did a search...) First of all, on the anthracite headliner, what is the driving force on many people electing to go with the extra cost of this? Maybe there is more to it that I don't know and I need to be educated. As far as I can tell, it is simply a darker color (black, right?) headliner and side pillar, etc. option. Is the dark grey that it comes stock a bad choice? Is it personal preference, (nothing wrong with that) I am just trying to understand.

Lastly, does anyone who opted for the wood dash have any pics of it? How does it look? I've only seen it represented on the MINIUSA "configurator", and that really didn't show much. I understand that it is real wood, correct? Ive seen some real wood dashes with incredible finishes. Anybody got pics?

Thank you!

It just creates a richer look, IMHO. I had the standard grey on the previous model and the interior seemed airy and brighter. Now, it seems slightly darker and more luxurious.

One poster commented that your color of exterior roof might affect your thinking on this. I have a black roof and the darker interior ceiling just creates some design continuity.

Yes, I forgot to mention that also. I am looking at an all Lightning Blue (Or maybe BRG) MINI, with no sunroof. I live in Florida, it almost hit 90 today. I know that by opting for a darker color roof I am asking for some serious heat, out in the sun midday, and I wondered if an anthracite roof would add to it.

Pics of both in this thread... https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ght=anthracite

The standard color is actually pretty light. More like a dove grey While the anthracite is a charcoal grey. I think it really depends on what interior you are going with. If you have a light dash the standard headliner will blend in better... but looks abit out of place with the darker interior options.

Personally, I chose the anthracite headliner so the pillers would match the dash. Attached is a picture with the anthracite headliner with the English Oak dash.

Get the anthracite, adds a much more luxurious look and feel to it..little "cave-like"...it adds a very nice touch.

I opted for the anthracite headliner due to my test drive. I test drove a car without it, and I found that the lighter headliner took away from the road.

(side note: I wear a baseball hat 95% of the time) With my car now, I can't see the headliner around my hat brim. With the mini, I can see the headliner at all times, even with a hat on. The bright colored headliner seems to play with my eyes a bit and takes away from the road. The anthracite headliner allows my eyes to focus better on the road...

Thanks to all for the replies.

I have a test drive scheduled for this Saturday, I asked if they will have both kinds of headliners represented, the MA thought they would. I'll check it out.

I prefer the lighter headliner....it just gets too dark to me otherwise. As you suspected, it is a personal color choice, nothing more. I have the English Oak interior, too and love it!!! Pic in gallery... except now I have the matching shift ****, too!!

definitely personal preference...

I initially thought it was b/s to pay for it. I mean, come on, it doesn't cost them 250 bucks to manufacture the same exact piece in a different color. But, it was a necessity for me.

See, and I went the opposite and got the gotham gray side panels to match the standard headliner, and didn't pay extra!

OK, I think I'm gonna go witht he Anthracite. It looks too good.

One other follow up question, if someone could elaborate for me. I believe the wood on the wood dash and steering wheel is real, but looking at *some* of the few pics that I have been able to see it sorta looks like wood grain plastic. That simply may be because of the high gloss coating however.

So, are they real wood? I believe so, but just want to be sure. And if anybody else has this and can post more pics (alot of the ones posted have been in bad lighting situations I think.) that would be great.

Thanks!

It's real wood, but it's not really thick. It's more of a laminate for the plastic underneath. And, yes, they did make it very shiny.
