R50/53 Good idea/bad idea? for intercooler
Good idea/bad idea? for intercooler
so i got myself a m7 dfic at a great price, and before people say how horrible it is at the track , know that chances are it will never see a track well maybe a 1/4 mile track but only a couple of times just to satisfy curiousity, and my car is more of daily racer but the only person i street race IS MYSELF
however i have access to some 12v computer style fans. would it do me any good to put them across the back of the intercooler to suck air through at idle so not to get completly heatsoaked?

lol this reminds me of when kids use to strap similar fans onto their intake on their gopeds to get a type of "forced induction"...lets just say it didnt work
but i vote bad idea...there's probably too much heat there for the fan to handle anyways

There's a local guy who does that for Auto-x's, but the car is idle and isn't moving. He made a brace that held I think 4 120mm or so fans, which forced more air into the IC, cooling it down. Good idea imo, but not for the street. I don't think it would help with the airflow. Your time would be better spent trying to figure out an intake solution (ie. getting more air from outside to the IC).

But as soon as you start moving the air flow will surpass the fan capabilities and you are probably restricting the air flow by then.
Best street IC is still the stock one, works very efficient at cruising speeds and won't heat soak like the dfic's will.

but ive heard just the oposite, ive heard the dfic would be best for street but the stock out performs it on the track . however i also considereded making a fiberglass tube that went from the back of the dfic to the vents where the windshield meets the bonnet ?? what about that??? would basically be the m7 vent minus a hole in the hood

Leave the computer fans for mounting them on electrical equipment, they don't belong in the engine bay of a car.
