R56 Installing new/swaping out the exterior molding
Installing new/swaping out the exterior molding
That is supposed to say "swapping" in the subject line....
Has anyone had their dealer swap out their exterior moldings? Whether you had the chrome line exterior installed, or swapped out for black, etc.....
My dealer had the exact car I wanted on the lot- except it didn't have the stripes or chrome line exterior on it. They told me those were 2 things they could do for me. So I bought it.
The car went in a few weeks ago. The stripes were put on, but the chrome molding they ordered wasn't fitting correctly. (it took them 2 days to figure this out) Fine. No biggie.
They ordered new molding, so when it came in, I brought the car in again but they are claiming its STILL not fitting. I'm trying to just get the two bumper parts on- the front fog lamp inserts and the front bottom grill as well as the piece around the back foglamp. I've opted to not get the chrome mirror caps- I prefer the white now that I have the stripes. (By the way, now it has taken THREE days to figure out that this won't work.) Apparently the clips on the molding are not lining up with the bumper. I can't seem to understand- aren't all the bumpers built the same regardless of what molding you have?
I'm so pissed right now, I can't see straight. When I had decided to buy the car, I was in no hurry and would have otherwise ordered my Mini- instead they told me this can be done, so I went ahead and bought the one off their lot. Oh and to top it off, both times I've brought it in for this, I had appointments and were promised a loner car but never got one because they were out. The first time, my husband carted me to and from work, and this time, I ended up with an Enterprise vehicle- a Dodge Caravan that is the size of a school bus. I"m beyond thrilled.
Back to the exterior molding- Please let me know if this is something that can be done. (FYI- unfortunately, installing this myself is not an option. I have no skills whatsoever to do this kind of stuff....

If you are talking about the Chrome Rings on the Door Speakers, it took my dealer 3 tries before the correct parts were ordered. Molly had them installed yesterday, along with a Free Oil Change (1606 mi.) for the troubles.
I have looked into getting the exterior chrome parts for my car (my car is a cooper non s). The car originally did not come with the exterior chrome package. I emailed my dealer and asked if I could buy the exterior chrome package and install it myself. Much to my surprise my dealer told me that the only exterior chrome piece I could install is the piece on the lower grill. The chrome pieces where the left and right fog lights and the rear fog light attach to have different part numbers for chrome and non chrome exterior packages. You cannot put the chrome accents on a car that originally did not have chrome unless you change the parts that the chrome attaches to.
