07 MCS OEM iPod randomly disconnects

So I'm having a problem with my factory iPod adapter (integrated NAV/iPod/Bluetooth) in my 2007 MCS. It plays just fine and suddenly it stops giving me audio. On the screen it appears to be playing but it's not. Often the iPod will not say Mini anymore, but will say something like safe to disconnect. If I shut off the car, and come back later (presumably after 15 minutes which I believe is the time-out for caching in the car's electronics) the thing is live again. We found one time on a long trip after it had cut out and something like 15-20 minutes had gone by, we switched back to the CD section (from the radio) and it was alive again. This is all on smooth pavement and doesn't appear to be a cabling issue. Has anyone else had this problem? We have tried different iPods and this problem persists.
