R50/53 How Much BHP?
How Much BHP?
Two Parts...
Dont want to dyno just give me a figure you think for a 2002 MCS...
15% Wayworks pully
Supersprint cat back exhaust
cold air intake..
Also,
HOW MUCH ARE YOU MAKING?

hard to say without strapping to a dyno. No 2 Minis are built the same. Mine with just a 15% pulley put down 204whp 190 ft lbs. After tuning it went to 206.4whp and 191lb ft. Some Minis with similar mods dyno around 170whp.
Believe it or not, there is a HUGE variance in the power these cars are making. At the RMW tune session here in Rochester, before having the tune done the low dyno pull was 162.1hp / 159.7ft with pretty standard mods (can recall the specifics). The top run was 204.2 hp / 190.8 ft lb on an '05 MCS cabrio with a cai, 15% & stock exhaust.
On your car it made very little difference in PEAK numbers but the driveabilty and area under the curve is what improved.

intake and pulley mine made about 192whp. now that i added catback exhaust, i hope to be around 200whp...i'll find out in a couple weeks...
this is WHP, mind you...not BHP like you asked.
for my bhp, factor in about 12-14% for drivetrain loss. So 200whp would be about 226bhp..give or take.

Wait, BHP= Break horse power, that is whats at the wheels right, horse power by itself is the power at the engine, so BHP should be with the reduction and whats actually going to the wheels, at least thats what i have always thought, am I wrong?
WHP = power actually making it to the wheels
AstroBlackS is correct...you've been misinformed..
BHP, or Brake Horsepower is what the motor can put out before all the cars parts drain power ie pumps, altenators, gearboxes, etc. The term 'brake' can be misleading, because many people associate it with brakes at your wheels..but its actually from a device called a band brake which was used to measure power/torque by applying pressure to a drum. the amount of pressure, or brake, is what gave the results.
so high BHP is good, high WHP is better!
WHP or wheel horsepower is the power is actually being used for forward motion, or the power that is left after all the cars parts have taken their share of the motor's power. This is what normal dynos that you are familiar with, measure. also known as effective hp, or true hp.
Don't feel bad though, its a common misunderstanding and there are literally dozens of varieties of horsepower measurements.

with a 16% pulley, milltek catback, m7 cai, and a whole lot of heat soak, i only saw 162 whp, but i had a huge power drop at high rpms i think i had some belt isssues looking to get a 17% and a better belt

I have the same mods except I also have JCW 380cc injectors (which help with the top end of the rpm band) and an RMW tune, but check out the numbers in my signature. Even though different dynos, still a big difference. Before the tune I was making 184.5whp and 179.4 ft lbs.
