Hi Folks - I'm new here but been browsing around for quite some time now. I have a mean looking X5 that guzzles gas like crazy. I bought my wife a 2007 MINI COOPER S and immediatley feel in love.
About 30 minutes ago I was at the dealership shopping around for an 08' Cooper S. Until I saw in the corner of my eye....a CPO'ed 2006 Cooper S. Dark Silver/Black roof with the following options/packages:
- Premium Package
- Sport Package
- Cold Weather Package
- Convenience Package
- Leather: Lounge Carbon Black Seats
- Park Distance Control
- NAV System
- BlueTooth/IPOD
and many others....
20k miles, clean in and out - $28k out the door. I will take pics when it arrives in an hour!
Thanks for looking!!
In the meantime....a picture of my other beast.

Congrats, I am making my purchase next week when my ship [cash] comes in.
That's a nice looking Mini.
That's a gas sucking pig looking X5. I have had BMWs and SUVs. Here in San Francisco gas is about $4.25 a gallon. And on the news they said experts are saying in a few years gas will be at $10 to $15 a gallon. Also they predict rationing.
No matter how nice a vehicle looks [I like the BMW X5] those will depreciate to being worth nothing.
In contrast, your Mini will be worth what you paid for it today.
Just on gas prices, now and later, that Mini you bought was a wise purchase.
IMHO it has to be the best looking gas saving car on the road.
Sidenote: they also said on the news today that Ford, GM and others are tanking on big gas guzzler vehicle sales. You got that Mini just in time.
Bonus Tip: You might want to unload that gas guzzling pig while you can still get some money for it. Mark my words, in a year or two it will be worth about $10k and I doubt anyone would buy it at that price.

the seats are actually 'English Panther Leather'. They changed the name for the new R56 versions.
$28k for a used MINI with 20k miles? Is it a JCW at least?

MichaelSF - thanks for the tip! However, I truly love the power and looks of the X5. The depreciation value doesnt really matter to me - I'm keeping it as the future "family" car.
PGT - the CPO sticker price was $29,800. I got them down to 25k + change and ended up negotiating again and ended up 28k out the door. I think I made a fairly good deal knowing that the mini was originally over 32k. =)
Thanks for the warm welcome guys - off to MOD!!!

welcome to the mini family!
that's a mean looking x5, but a 4.4? i bet it guzzled like you said
great looking car but it seems a bit steep at 28K...
my mini is exactly the same as yours minus the conv pkg, navigation, and english panther seats.
and i got my 06 with 10,000 miles on it for 22K and that is including tax and registration.
enjoy your car!

BlackX5. Beautiful Mini. You might want to check some prices here for 06 Mini's and that will give you an idea of how well you've done on your "deal".
$25k is going to be a "top price" for that car, but if you're happy and can afford it, great. You' just helped the "resale" value for the rest of us so we're really glad to have you aboard.

Although this is more than most MINIs are selling for in the marketplace here, this MINI is obviously loaded with everything, including NAV and automatic tranny (plus CPO peace-of-mind is always going to be extra). . . plus those seats look awesome on that DS MINI. . . as do the wheels.
So, I think you've gotten yourself a MINI you're really going to enjoy and be happy with.

He was talking tax too. Here in California it is HIGH. I think about 8.25% now.
That adds about $825 per $10,000. So that would be over $2000 on a $25k car.
Plus he had to add the next year's registration fee, possibly. [$350 or more?]
And transfer fees to DMV.
So by my calculations, assuming $25k for a fully loaded [and I do mean fully] that puts the price out the door at $27600.
Just an estimate.

If that certified pre owned ADDED to the existing manufacturer warranty, where that extends the BMW Mini warranty, that is worth a lot to me.
I bought a CPO BMW 740i once. It covered the car an additional two years, bumper to bumper beyond the car's original warranty.
Made a few claims under that warranty. Took car to BMW dealer, just as if it was manufacturer's original warranty.
WELL WORTH IT. Worth about $1500 in my book. BUT ONLY IF IT IS THE MANUFACTURER'S CPO.

dandw2 - yes siree, tax and DMV included.
eager2own - I agree its almost the same price as the 2008 models. But its fully loaded. The Nav was a huge plus for me as well. But as much as I wanted a manual....the pedal shifters are pretty fun to use!
MichaelSF - you hit it right in the spot. CA tax is ridicoulous.

Small used cars are gaining value according to reports I have seen posted in the internet. Appreciation rates are about 2%.
I have no idea how used MINIs are doing in dealer's only auctions, but I do know that dealers are literally killing each other to ****** whatever small/compact cars they can get their hands on.
So it is not too off the wall to say that MINI (already a car that enjoys very good residuals) may actually be gaining in value given the sudden/crazy demand for small cars.

Rather than saying what a crappy deal he "supposedly" got congratulate the man.
Now go out and drive it like you stole it!
Now I feel even more confident that my'05 mcsa ,which I purchased a year ago for $22,500/9,400 miles was a screaming deal!
-- congrats though!-whatever you gotta do,however you do it -it's a life changing event(mini ownership)
