R50/53 Question about the OBC
Is there a code function for the engine in the OBC? On all the BMW's that I have had there has been a code that you could set so that the engine would not start unless you punched the code in. Thanks.

I have not heard of that at all. How would you enter the code since there is no keypad anywhere?
There is a coded driveaway protection in the MINI like in beamers that works via a chip in the key. Without that chip - and the correct chip that is with the right code - being withion 2-3 inches of the ignition key, the engine will not start. Is that what you meant?

I know about the chip in the key, but that is not what I am talking about. In BMW's there are buttons on the OBC that you set the time and date with. When setting the code you use these buttons to set the code. It is not a keypad, but it is 4 buttons. You push the button X number of times until you get to the number you want. Anything similar in the Cooper?

The MINI OBC does not have the code function.
The OBC you described is only fitted to E36s and the 8 series. Even the newer E46s don't have it anymore. I have a E36 325i, and the OBC code feature prevented my car from being stolen once. With the chip in the key, I guess BMW felt it is even more secure than code input on the OBC, thus they omitted this feature from all future models.
