Do you agree on a price during the ordering process?

I'm about to order my MINI next week and I was wondering if we settle on a price then or if we wait until it comes in. I know I have to put like a $1000 deposit down.

Almost everyone pays msrp and the dealer will throw in floormats. The MINI is an outstanding value in and of itself. I sold cars for a long time and did my dealer make a fair profit on my purchase I hope so that they and my salesperson will be around down the road for me when I will need their service. fwiw carma is definatley a huge factor imho on how one will enjoy their new car experience if the process starts out bad it usually never gets better Don't worry be happy

You decide on the price , when you place the order. The deposit will be applied to the final price. Don't forget that after you negotiate the price , you still need to pay taxes license and document fees.

As far as paying MSRP . It depends on where you live and how many dealerships are in your area. Six weeks ago , I was told the same thing here in these forums ." Be happy , if you have to pay MSRP ". Some people pay more than MSRP .
Well I have never paid MSRP for a Car . Living in the NY , NJ area.
We are fortunate that living in NJ we have 6 dealers within 50 miles and even more within 100 miles.
What I did was configure my car from the miniusa site . Then emailed my configuration to 8 dealers in my area . Within 2 hours I got 3 responses back 2 willing to sell the car below MSRP . Two days later I got even more responses with $ off MSRP .
With best offer in hand I called the dealer I wanted to purchase my Mini from and he matched the best offer. It is easier to ask for money off by email then in person you do not have to even step in to dealership before knowing the price you are going to pay. Send emails to the Sales Manager not a MA , Sales managers make the decisions.

I should be picking up my MINI this week .

Good luck on your purchase. Minis are a fun car to drive. Happy Motoring!

I will pm you with information.

Just feel funny about being that specific. Just don't feel right about it , Karma or something like that.

Ahh, how nice that would be... here in Denver we have one Dealer with no one else for about 400 miles. You can imagine how flexible they are!

Man, your dealers are a LOT more aggressive than those around me! I tried a similar tactic this week. Living in central Illinois, I have 5 dealers within a 200 mile radius. No response from 2 dealers, and did get calls from the other three. None of the three would budge at all on price (and I used to be a Buyer, and have several friends that always have me go with them to negotiate cap prices, so I've done this a few times!).

Knowing that most people didn't get anything off MSRP, and knowing that I wouldn't be happy with floor mats, I scanned the dealer accessories area of the configurator (Step 5) and chose several options that I may not have otherwise gotten (BOTH rubber AND carpeted mats, the "BlackJack" side scuttle(installed), the Mini Sun shade, chrome license plate frames, etc), and added them to the order. Even then I had to work them to get them to throw them all in, but I was successful in getting about $700 of dealer accessories added at no charge.

But back to the original question, you MUST negotiate up-front. Once you put that deposit down any power you had disappears!

BlackjackMark ;

You did very well if you got them to add in $700.00 of accessories.

That is as good as getting money off.

I got real lucky then. I didn't put any money down and the MA didn't agree on a price with me. He said that we could discuss prices once the car got in. But the he couldn't promise, but would try to give a price break. I told him that at another dealer they would give $500 off MSRP.

When the car arrived, He gave me free floor mats, cargo net and $500 off MSRP, as I had mentioned before I placed my order.

He kept his word that he would make me a happy customer, and I kept my word that I would buy the car from him. Didn't have to put any money down.

they kinda got us over the barrel here in NM. i think the closest dealer is in denver, vegas, or phoenix, minimum 440 miles away. as far as i can tell the price is not up for discussion, and it takes $2000 to get anything moving across the pond. At 28,800 i still feel its a value compared to the other cars i'm considering

2 dealers here in Houston; Mini of The Woodlands and Momentum Mini.

Was told by both they deal only in MSRP.

MA at MOTW said he would throw in floormats and $200 off accessories.

Going to negotiate putting the stripes on and installing driving lamps. I'll handle the mudflaps myself.

I'll post my results...
