alarm system

did anyone install a aftermarket alarm system? if you did... which alarm system did you use and were you able to wire everything like the factory one so you can use your key to arm/disarm the alarm??

I just wanna see if I have other options before I go order the factory 1

Great name, odobo. I prefer pancit myself. I installed the factory unit on my 2003 mcs myself. The one bump in the road was having to go back to the dealer and upgrade the computer. The dealer did it for free. I guess it depends on the dealership. I had some major work done recently through that dealership.

I like the sweet stuff, like ensaymada . Or pan de sol with butter. I hate empandas w/ chick peas, gross.

To contribute to this thread - I would recommend the factory alarm if only to get the sweet glow on the tach, otherwise it's a pretty standard alarm system. Aftermarket/non-dealer installed alarms may also void your warranty, or at least anything that has to do with electrical.

I agree, both on the food and the alarm. I might add that the if you install via the dealership it has a warranty.

Personally, I can't fathom dropping $500 into an alarm that doesn't even have a remote starter built into it. but to each his own.

I'm a kari kari man myself...especially with the salted shrimp

Getting back to the alarm...I really like the Clifford line of alarms. I had one on my old car and worked like a charm for the 4 years I had it. The main issue with alarms is installation. Make sure you go to a credible shop that backs their work 100% for as long as you own the car. The guy who installed my alarm on my BMW knew it inside and out...because he took his apart when he redid the sound system, and added a better alarm system.
