New Tranny! Out of Warranty! FREE?!?!!!

well i just got off the phone with Princeton MINI and they are putting in a new tranny for me.

i've had the car for about 20k miles, i bought it used last year, and i have had ongoing issues with a ticking noise from the driveline . The first time i took it in they found no issues as the car and it has always driven well . the next time i brought it in for a few other issues, squeaks, rattles and new tires, this time they found the same noise as me. Isaac decided that they should replace the clutch and flywheel to see if that would remove the noise, P.S, my car is at 52,000 at this point all covered under warranty. The next thing i know the noise comes back at around 56k but i can't make an appointment any time soon. this time Jimmy calls me back and says bring it in when you can we'll take a look and see if we can make the repair. today at 61k i drop the car off and get a convertible loaner but it's raining out. Jimmy gives me a call around 11a.m. and says the noise is coming from the Tranny and it will have to be replaced! OH NO! I Think; but then Jimmy says it is still part of the original issue and as a good will gesture they will be replacing it for FREE.

when i'm ready to move up to the clubman i will certainly be trading in my S there for the Clubby S. what a great experience. i think everyone should know about this.

That is called a "Goodwill repair". If the car was brought in for service during the duration of the warranty, the dealer most likely will extend this to you. On the other hand, if the car saw the dealer very few times (or never) during the warranty period, the outcome would have been very different and perhaps costly.

What exactly does this noise sound like? Can you better describe it?

New tranny -free- for me, too. 42,000 miles; 4 years, 2 months. Nice of them, to say the least.
