Me too. I've been really tempted to get one of those fatty steering wheels of late.

I just installed the JCW steering wheel and love it! The thread linked to above is extremely helpful; however, I would like to add a few pointers for others about to take the leap.

Other threads that I have read suggest waiting for 30 minutes after disconnecting the battery terminal before removing the airbag to allow any residual charge to dissipate so as to not accidentally discharge the airbag.

Also, the following sockets and torx bits will be needed to complete the installation:
10mm socket - battery terminal nut
16mm socket - steering wheel bolt
T20 torx bit - trim/MFSW control panel screws
T25 torx bit - steering wheel metal plate screws

I replaced mine in about twenty minutes. Very easy install. I didn't remove the plates for the MFSW plates because you can just take the wires out. The surround is rubber and is very pliable, so the wires come out without any issue. They go into the new wheel the same way. I'm always a little scared doing any mods because I don't want to mess anything up, and this wheel install was a piece of cake.

The only issue I had was when I reconnected the battery. The auto up feature in my windows was gone on both sides, and the drivers window wouldn't go all the way up. One of the techs at my dealer told me to press down on the window toggle until the window was all the way down, hold ten seconds, and then raise the window with the toggle all the way up and hold for ten seconds. I did it on both sides and the windows reset and work perfect.

Does this install require any programming? Local dealers are quoting me $180~210 for the install alone.

Absolutely no programming. Everything just swaps out. My MFSW controls work perfectly on the new wheel because they are the same controls with the same wires, you are just swapping them into the new wheel. Only problem I had was with windows due to disconnecting battery, and I fixed it using the tip above. I am not confident with mods, and this really is a very easy install.

No, and you can do the installation of the wheel yourself. Seriously, $180-$210? I don't know what the labor rate is for your area but this swap takes minutes. I think it took me 15 minutes from beginning to end. How your dealer can justify $180 is beyond me.

I didn't have any problems with my windows probably because I didn't disconnect the battery. I made not to touch any of the connections when I took the airbag off.

Thanks. That puts my mind at ease. Every dealer nearby keeps suggesting the high cost is due to the programming. Had a feeling this was off base.

Appreciate the response. I'll have to budget next Saturday morning to this one and then go for a nice long drive.

Thanks for the offer. Might have to take you up on that since I actually work in Princeton.

I was surprised how easy it was. As soon as I heard anything about removing the airbag I was a bit nervous but it was really straightforward and obviously the most tangible mod you can perform. Great mod though and I wish the car came with this from the get go. So much better than the standard wheel.
