I have just the standard climate controls and I would like to swap over to the digital climate controls. Is this possible? Has anyone done this? If it is possible how expensive will it be? Thanks in advance...

 

take a look at Realoem.com to see the parts differences. Not only is the user interface different, all the actuators on the automatic system are electric as opposed to cable controlled on the manual. Don't know if the body control module electronics are involved, but I'd guess they are too.

Two totally different systems: IHKS (manual) & IHKA (automatic).
The manual is just what it says -you do all the work and make all the decisions.
The automatic has servo motors to control vent openings; temp sensors in the heater core and passenger compartment to maintain set temperature; and a K-bus connection to the General Module (BC1) that monitors sensor info. I think it would be easier to install a fireplace in the back seat than convert from one to the other.
