Over heating problem

I am looking at buying a 2005 cooper S that only has 2,900 miles. The person who owns it has several other sports cars and the mini was bought new and garage kept its whole life. He has barely driving it. He is a big car nut that has more cars than he can drive.

My question is, I was driving this car and I noticed the heat gauge would go over the half way mark every now and then. When the fan came on it would go back to the half way mark again. Is this normal or common with 2005 Mini cooper S's.

The car is showroom condition. The oil is so clean you can't even see it on the dip stick........

I've never seen my MINI's temp go above the half-way mark. It'll be well-worth your hour to meet at a shop that can inspect the car to diagnose it before you buy it. If the current owner won't do that, let it go, there will always be another one. BTW, if its a 2005, that should mean it has some warranty left and the repairs should be free.
