Hi, new here

Hi just got a 05 MCS with around 6220 miles on it. I have had it about a week. only took one pic so far and it was with my phone at work. I have been reading alot of posts and it makes me kinda nervous driving this car. It was a graduation present and i don't really make tons of money since i am still in college. It seems they have lots of problems and don't get that great of mileage. I don't want it to fall apart on me. I still have my old car a 94 del sol that got around 35 in the city and 45 on the freeway. Though the mini is way way nicer i just hope it will be as reliable as my honda. it is a bmw after all. anyways its nice to find a place with lots of knowledgeable people.

Hey! Welcome to the zoo! This is a great place to pick up info and ideas about your ride. You're gonna love it.
Just keep in mind that the majority of the post are from people that are having problems. The ones that aren't having problems (most of us, MINI's are GREAT cars!) are too busy motorin' or else they are posting answers to the few that are having some issues.

Don't let all the chatter scare you. We're just a bunch of weirdos who think our perfect little cars should be more perfect than they already are. And sometimes when real life hits us, we just don't know how to deal with it in an emotionally mature way. So we end up sounding like hypochondriacs.

You have a beautiful little Silk Green with nice low mileage. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride for a long time to come!

As long as you have an extended waranttee, no worries. I'm facing the possibilty of replacing an alternator, big $, but I have over 74,000 miles.

Welcome to NAM!

Nice MINI, is that an american flag on the top?

Where do you work? That building in the backround looks impressive. Aerospace? Communications? Or is your work behind you, a fried chicken joint across the street?

Welcome to Nam!! I have only seen two Silk green MINIs in person and they were both MCs. I think it's a very pretty color and must be very rare.
You can learn about anythig connected to a MINI on this forum and a lot you don't want to know. Enjoy your new ride and don't worry, they are great cars.

Silk Green ?! Wow... we don't get many of those around here !!

You can start the Silk Green Owners Club on NAM. All three of you will have a great time !!

I say that in admiration, I assure you. I like things that are unusual and uncommon. Especially when they are MINIs !

Welcome to NAM and congrats on your purchase of a rare color.

I knew it wasn't silk green, it's electric blue. Which, I might add, is the best color for a MINI. That was not a bias statement.

NASA, eh? That's sweet. What do you do there? You said you were a college student, what is your major?

Congrats and enjoy your MINI. I bought my MINI used several years ago an 03S and almost 2yrs later I have only had 1-2 minor problems. The best thing is I have never been left anywhere by "SLY"

I agree with CR or PW or JB, or all three of them if they all typed it! It looks like a Silk Green in the picture to me. And quite frankly, although Nabeshin certainly knows a lot more about MINI's than me, since taste is an optional kind of thing, I think Silk Green is way cooler than Electric Blue any day.

NO Way!!! Electric Blue rules!!!
I figured when you mentioned it was an MCS. Or did they make a Silk Green S? Anyway, super cool car, super fantastic color...and don't worry about reliability, they are great little cars. Yours has super low miles anyway. Oh, yes and we are curious about your major...fill us in!

Not to be a party-pooper, but why do people always say their cars get better mileage than what the factory claims when new???

The 1.5L Del Sol (Not the "S" or "Vtech" model) got 30 mpg in the city & 37 mpg on the highway when driven smoothly & slowly- I owned the "S" model & averaged 30 mpg in real world conditions.

I stand corrected on the color! The small photo sure looked like silk green.
Whatever, it's still a pretty car and i wish you many trouble free and fun miles.

I have a del Sol SI, the mid one 125hp, and i did get mid 30's all the time worst i ever got was 29, but that was when i went 90 all the way from san antonio to houston. and.... its VTEC, Vtech is electronic company. I did not say it was stock.

that was it about two weeks before some one smashed it.

At NASA i write contracts, or help people write them. Like in the news when you hear that nasa awarded a company some contract, that is what i do. but on much lower scale, the last one i did was for 25k. I am gonna get two bachelor degrees, one in accounting and one in finance.

Welcome to the club superfly!

I wouldn't worry about your car too much. These guys are really well built and a blast to drive.
Sure if you search the threads and hang around the problems/issues boards them you may get the impression that they have tons of problems but just remember that we are likely an enthusiast if are even registered here on NAM. So our problems are often times small squeaks and rattles that interrupt our otherwise perfect drive.
Also keep in mind that if you take care of it it will take care of you. NAM is a great place to find out how to keep your MINI in top shape and learn how to make all but the most dire problems quick and easy DIY's.

Get out there and hit some turns at high speeds and you will see why the MINI is so much fun!!
