Asside from price, are there any other disadvantages? My transmission is about to crap out at 50K miles and I'd rather spend extra to put in a good clutch + 6 speed and rid myself of the crappy 5 speed in my 02MC. How's the gearing? Haven't been able to find it (for reference, I'm talking about a R53 transmission).

 

Maybe weight? Otherwise, I can't hink of any...

It's been looked into for a cvt. The wiring harness, ecu and parts needed are so different that it is not economically feasible. It's less expensive to sell the cvt car and buy a later model 6sp.

 

Well there was a complete MCS JCW motor/trans on ebay for 4K!!!! I was trying to wh*re myself for it...but alas, the wifey said..no job...no motor.. ARRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!

 

more than the $7000 a new CVT costs? well i guess a new CVT is still cheaper than a new MINI so maybe there is hope i can keep her for many more years then. then again, by that time someone will have figured out how to repair them.

 

I'm pretty sure the 05 and 06's have better gearing for the MC. It would probably be best to use those years. Other than that, your mc will gain a little weight.

 

For an '02-04 (only MC's with Midlands, I think) an '05/06 transmission from either MC or MCS would provide better gearing (see my previous post for info).

The 2008 MC Cabrio has a 6 speed, should have the right gearing for a Cooper.

 

Umm... no... the next gen 2009 MC vert will have a 6 spd... as it's based off the current R56 MC, which has a 6 spd. The 2008 MC 'vert is still based on the R50.
