The stock MINI cat isn't as restrictive as those on a lot of other cars. As such, other than increased noise and pollution, there's probably not a lot to be gained.

*agreed*

Also, Catseye, have you tried Valuum and restraints? Worked wonders for me.

I went through two cats (American Short Hair and a Siamese/Manx mix) before I got the technique right. Our new cat seems to be kind of skittish...

Most cats HATE riding in cars. They will scratch the heck out of you and your car.

Yeah, but I kept losing the "purr motor". I missed that.

When I spotted the thread title, I said to myself; "Self... that's a thread that the SPCA would be interested in..." and NAM didn't disappoint.

How does one go about hollowing out a cat? My 'gut' instinct is to try a dusting attachment on my air compressor at 150 psi.

No, no. The air compressor is messy at best. The shop vac, on the other hand...

Says who? Some cats hate riding in cat carriers. Cars is another matter entirely.

But I suspect the OP isn't asking about the furry kind. Hollow out a catalytic converter? You must not live in an inspection and maintenance state!

When you say "hollowing it out", you mean basically make it a test pipe right? Just straight threough unobstructed pipe. If so, I'd just have a shop cut out your stock one, and weld a flange on it. Then weld a flanges to a replacement piece of pipe, so you can just bolt them in/out. That way you can always go right back to stock if need be.

Hmmm, may be overkill. You might be stuck with an inside-out cat...

My old cat loved to go for car rides. He thought they were The Best.

i had one on my other car. I made it smell really nice, well if you like car exhaust. and it made it quite illegal. but i did not notice a gain of power.
