Interior/Exterior Painting the black plastic trim...ACK!
Painting the black plastic trim...ACK!
Schultze has been at the collision center since the 03/15/08 accident; there was a big snafu with a parts order, but everything was FINALLY delivered on 04/18/08.
Here's where I desperately need good info:
A complete set of the black plastic trim pieces were ordered with the intention of having them painted. Due to the circumstances beyond my control, the parts which should've been shipped in March weren't shipped until 04/14/08, so now there's a SIGNIFICANT time-crunch factor in place in order to have Schultze ready for MOTD.
The collision center has extended a discount if I assist with the prepping of the plastic pieces. I don't want to walk into the paintshop totally clueless and if I can get some basic info/techniques from NAM, it will be a tremendous help!
I'm guessing that I'll have to sand the pieces before the first primer coat. What grit would I need to use? I have no problem buying some supplies & bringing them with me if it will make things easier/quicker. (I'm not familiar with paint shops at collision centers, so I'm not sure if they even have sandpaper on hand. When I visited Schultze earlier in the week, they were using a power tool to remove paint when they were working on the bonnet.)
If anyone can give me a quick "here's how it's done" writeup, it'd be GREATLY appreciated!
Not that it will make any difference, but I do have experience with painting particleboard furniture via this method: sand; primer; sand; primer; sand; tackcloth; paint; paint; paint; clearpolycoat; sand; clearpolycoat. The end result looked like the furnture was lacquered.
I don't want to be "in the way" or "needing constant assistance" when I go to the collision center later today, so any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
