Detailing?

Anyone know about a good interior surface cleaner and/or leather treatment for the interior? I don't want to take it to my neighborhood car wash where they coat every surface in shiny armor-all.

For leather seats I recommend Lexol leather cleaner and conditioner. Now as far as interior plastic trim surface cleaner, I have found the MINI branded product to do a decent job and smells good to. It is not greasy and does not leave a shiny look on the plastics. It just cleans and preserves the mate look of the plastics.

Perhaps there are several other products in the market for this purpose, but I have had good results with these.

cixuru - if you scroll down to the "minis in general" forum, there's a whole sub-forum devoted to detailing. I use Lexol for the interior. They make a very good leather cleaner, an excellent leather treatment, and an excellent vinyl cleaner/treatment. In the "detailing" forum you'll find lots of folks with lots of advice on the "best" products.

Thanks for the info. Will that work for the non-leather dash? At least, I think it's not leather...the part that goes right up to the windshield....

i use 303, and it does lasts.... and lasts.... and lasts

You know... you might get more replies on the Detailing 101 forum than on the Clubman forum.

That is, unless the Clubmans have a special interior surface that no other MINI has.

Yes, we have special "Clubman" leather and special "Clubman" vinyl. They're a lot like the standard MINI materials, only stretched a little.

Sorry, just rubs me the wrong way. I'm seeing a lot of NAM elitism these days... people posting general MINI info in specific model forums, and not just Clubman people. R-53, R-56... it's getting bad, IMO.

Vent over.

Wow. I hope I'm not guilty of 'mini segregation'. I have no idea what 'model number' I have. I figured a Mini is a Mini and everyone is out to help everyone else.

If anyone knows what the model number of the Clubman is, please enlighten me so I don't make the mistake of post in the wrong forum.

Look at the top of the page. See where it says....

North American Motoring > 2nd Generation MINIs > Clubman Talk (2008+) > Detailing?

Does that help ?

My point is, a detailing question applies to all models of MINIs, it belongs in the Detailing forum.

We normally do. Even the closest families have their differences of opinions.

As long as nobody here has to sleep on the couch, we'll be fine.

Leather- I use Lexol on my Mom's TL.
Vinyl- I use 303 Aerospace protectant.
Exterior black trim- Griot's Garage product.
Wax- I'm still on a quest for the holy grail of wax.

If I can answer... without owning a Clubman...

Leather - Prima Nourish

Vinyl - 303 Aerospace

Exterior Trim - Black Wow

Wax - Prima Epic

If you visit the Detailing 101 forum and read, I believe you will learn these are the preferred products from the OCDetailers among us. I know, I'm one of them.

with few exceptions I would say I have to agree with this. The major point being that you may be severly limiting yourself to the best advice possible by where you choose to post.

I confess I've posted in the "wrong" place more than once, and also posted threads that had already been started, etc... There's a learning curve to any forum, especially to someone like me who's never posted in any forums before. I think simply pointing the way to the correct forum or thread or search is the easiest way to assist a "lost" member. As for the detailing forum, reading the posts there simply makes me feel unworthy. There are a lot of MINI owners who take really, really, really, really good care of their cars!

I know what you mean about the owners who "take really, really, really, really good care of their cars"! Though my intentions have always been good, I'm afraid to confess that I'm basically too lazy and thus use a car wash (brushless) and have a spray bottle of Meguair's Quick Detailer in the boot for emergency bird droppings and the like.

You simply cannot go wrong with the Griots Garage detailing product line:

For interior cleaning I would suggest this for hard plastic surfaces:

and once it's clean try this:

and this for leather seats:

and this for windows:

Click here for our new "car car + detailing" section of the site.

YOU FOOL! YOU WILL MAKE THE UNIVERSE IMPLODE!

It reminds me of the bickering over chassis codes back on honda-tech.

Japanese Civic hatchbacks are EG6's. American hatches are EH whatevers. People want to pretend they have cool Japanese Civics and call them EG's. Then purists tell them that an American Civic with a fuel economy 97 hp 1.5 liter CANNOT be called an EG6 because the EG6 has a sporty 160 horsepower 1.6 liter engine.

And those that swap the motor in are criticized FURTHER, until they swap the steering wheel to the other side so people on the internet drool over it and they have to drive backwards through drivethroughs

Ummmmmmm... hate to break it to you but I was actually trying to help you. If you had more time on this board, you realize I'm generally very helpful.

And if there was any sarcasm in the thread, go back and see who started it.

I did not take that as a sarcastic response at all. It answered the question directly.
