JCW Struts / Sports Suspention (noob question)

Sorry for the stupid sounding question folks... just trying to learn all I can about my new ClubMan-S that's on order. (don't shoot me, it's an automatic... wife can't drive a stick and we'll need to share from time to time :P )

I test drove the car in S/non-s & sport/non-sport. I noticed that for 'average driving' the non-SS (sport suspension) felt a little less rough on the road. The cornering seemed just about the same and even the dealer told me that unless you're going to go out autocrossing then you really won't notice that big of a difference.

A friend suggested I look into the JCW struts for $295 (factory installed) but if it's going to make my ride a bit rougher, I don't think I want it.

Can y'all explain the difference between the 2 and what the benefits of both are?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I couldn't find a search function on these boards and didn't want to have to filter through pages and pages of links

Thanks again.

Better dampers keep your tires in better contact with the road over worse surfaces and conditions, especially at speed.
In my humblest of humble opinions, suspension is the most overlooked yet most important safety feature on any car.
