Thinking of upping the power ante, some questions

'02 Cooper S, Six speed, 53k miles, completely stock except for 18inch wheels with 225/35 Eagle F1 GSD-3s.

I was looking at the minimania stage 2 kit (about $2000 plus install), consists of the 15% pulley, borla exhaust (which doesnt seem too noisy, and no drone), intake, plugs, and the unichip.

Any past experiences, caution, advice? Any preventitive maintenance I need to do before hand?

Thanks!

Call Jan at Revolution MINI if you want to upgrade some performance parts. Stay away from Unichip. Anything beyond that and I'll have to charge my hourly rate .

I would think that is a pretty nice set up.

Not all of us are located somewhere where Jan can do his programming/tuning magic when it comes to his custom tune vs the Unichip.

I've seen a lot of people here enjoy his tune and sell thier Unichip...of which I am one who purchased a used Unichip.

I'd go for a tune myself if he ever makes it to Denver.

I've got the JCW factory kit (pulley, head) with a Dinan exhaust, K&N intake (jcw kit didn't have CAI back then?), H-sport rear swaybar.

All that along with the Unichip is a blast.

It just depends on how much money you have to spend!

Are you going to install this stuff?

I installed everything except the JCW stuff and the exhaust. It cost 150 to put in a 2.5 inch pipe from the cat back to the exhaust.

As far as PM stuff i would imagine as long as you are up to date on your maintenance you should be good. I would invest in a ScanGuage II or some sort of OBDII code reader. ScanGuage also gives readouts for volts, water temp etc. I've had to reset my compter several times due to lean cylinder code due to some spirited driving

The wheel/tire combo I have now is pretty light. They thump pretty hard over bad bumps, but its a low sidewall, and the tires arnt runflats

Just a followup, I decided to go local, Danny at Minicorsa is going to slap on a pulley, intake, plugs, do the one-ball exhaust mod and change the brake pads while he's at it.

I'll report back with some impressions once its done this weekend.

My mods...

I just upgraded to the Borla exhaust, Webb CAI, 15% reduction pulley and wheels. Of all the upgrades, I hear the lower rear sway bar is one of the best which prevents understeer which is common and takes handling to a whole new level. I will be doing this next week in addition to the crank pulley, short shifter, and lowering springs.

I also have a youtube video of my exhaust if you want to take a peak. It is a good video and a great sound.
