R50/53 CVT fluid change?
CVT fluid change?
My wifes 03 Cooper has 66000 miles on it and i believe way over due on a trans fluid change. Anybody have link to doing a fluid change or have done it themselves? I tried searching and found plenty of info and why you should avoid them like the plague but nothing on keeping them alive.
Its not that hard ro do if you have the right tools... It should be done with your inspection I service that you should have had done at the dealer which means it may not have been 66,000 miles but hopefully half of that.
It basically consists of draining the trans. Then topping it off with 4.5 ltrs (through special hose connected to fill plug) of EZL 799 Trans fluid (at the dealer) and running it the full range of RPM's twice (in the air) and then pulling the special hose and watching for the steady stream of trans fluid to burp. When it burps you install the plug... Safer to let someone who has done it, do it. Not worth the risk of burning up your own tranny and paying for that.
