Anyone here tell me the difference between a 10w6 and an Alpine type R 12

ok i currently have an alpine type r twelve getting around 400 whats from a rockford amp in a volvo s70, i love it, it booms, it bumps, it sounds clean when i want it to and sounds just stupid loud when i want it to.

oh, it's in a bandpass box, which i know has a lot to do with it.

i've pretty much decided for the mini i'm going to go along with this

http://www.audiointegrations.citymax...ge/5313242.htm

my brother has a 10w6 that he said i can have from maybe 2 years ago, maybe a year ago, pretty much like new.

my question is, will this 10w6 if powered correctly have a high output like i'm getting from the single 12? more, less, much less?

i'm pretty set because the price, free for the sub, is right :D

i've found that i'm a young, single guy and the 12 in thebandpass is more than enough, but it's what i like volume wise for now, my brother claims the 10w6 will be even louder if powered right.

i'm planning on using this amp below to power it because my brother knows an alpine dealer who is offering me a like new floor model for next to nothing.

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...PDX1600&tp=115

could the 10w6 handle this

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Produ...PDX1100&tp=115

again i think the 600 watts will be enough or too much, but my brother gets ridiculous deals all the time. . . .

so anyone have experience with those amps and 10w6's together, separate, whatever, any other recommendations?

all lies!

I had a 10W6 in a Stealthbox for my Subaru. I had it on a 500/1 running about 650watts. People thought I had a pair of 12's or 15's, not this:

I only needed one. Seriously....it was nuts. Keep in mind, I had a 10W6v2, not the original 10W6

all W6's are DVC. v2 = Version 2.

I had three 8W6's in a slot loaded enclosure with a real1200w amp (Phoenix Gold) 10+ years ago. I also ran a 15W6 on that same amp.....W6's have been around 15 years or so. Solid woofer that can handle 2x rated power if it's properly set up (box size, amp gain, etc)

Keep in mind however that your going from a bandpass box to a sealed enclosure. Those Alpine PDX amps put out ridiculous power I have a 4.100 and the 1.1000 in my mini pushing 2 fosgate p3 12's and there more then enough. I have been doing car audio for 10 years now the one thing to keep in mind is that A bandpass box gives heavy bass response but is "rolling bass" meaning when the bass note hits it the design of the box causes it to carry the note longer, it also doesn't require large amounts of power. A sealed enclosure like the one your considering. Gives very tight accurate bass the way the music was recorded. a sealed enclosure also requires more power to run and get good bass response because of the characteristics of the box. Both are good bass it's just a matter of what you prefer

I agree 100% that you should be ready for a difference in sound. Volume-wise, the 10w6 can probably keep up with the 12" Alpine... but the different box design will cause the freq response to be substantially different (i.e. "tight" vs. "boomy").

For example, I loved my old dual 10" MTX bandpass box years ago when I was in college... it sounded great for the music I liked (hip-hop), and I was happy with minimal tuning control on it (i.e. "bass boost" and x-over freq.). However, when I got the MINI and went to a 10" stealthbox (sealed 10w3, I think), I was never really satisified with the way it sounded. Last summer I finally broke down and did the second upgrade on the MINI, and put in a 13w1 in a custom sealed enclosure + an Alpline H701 EQ which has 10 bands for the sub... it sounds much better to my taste now, but it could still be tuned better (need to RTA the system someday...).

Anyway, short story is don't be surprised if the "sound" is different due to the different frequency responses of a bandpass vs. sealed box...
