So having never given blood before I asked a few innocent question of Detailers Paradise about the blood letting process. Nick's response below should lay to rest any unease any of you may be feeling about giving blood (it did for me).

Well, the blood-giving process is a peaceful one. They give you a soft
rubber ball which to firmly grasp in your teeth as they kindly insert an
8 gauge needle into your arm crack several times while a pert, young
apprentice tries to lance a fertile vein. Once the vein begins to
collapse from the vacuum created by the plastic receiver, a rather large
woman will bounce on your lap to initiate blood flow.
As life slowly slips from your body, you will drift quietly to a happy
place when suddenly, a thunderous blow will wrench you from your
moonglow. Your work is done.
Slam a beer and call it a day knowing you have risked your life for the
good of others.
Nick

So needless to say, I'm so there!
But really people for a good cause we can all loose a little blood.
See you Saturday!

no worries Chuck. In the nearly 9 years, I estimate I have transfused around 4500 units of blood, and not one spilled drop. One of the things about working in Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant is that those patients need a lot of blood and platelet support during their recovery post chemotherapy infusions. This blood drive is for Children's Hospital, I no longer work there, but at a different facility working with not only children, but adults as well.....so, if anyone drops your blood, it won't be me
One other thing to remember, donated blood is only good for a short amount of time, it is important to donate year around, blood is always needed, and sometimes the units expire and go unused....and many times there are shortages of blood and platelets.
If you can't make the Blood Drive, feel free to contact Children's Hospital, or Bonfils Blood Bank to make a donation, they are always needed. http://www.bonfils.org/

It's a fact... we only have 4 people signed up so far and yet have a total of 32 slots to fill by tomorrow morning at 8am!
Poor Chuck and Rick are going to have to give more than their fair share to make up for everyone else.
I just hope they don't pass out from giving a few gallons of blood in one sitting, in which case I'll have to go joy-riding in their MINIs.
Seriously though, we are seeing a super-low turnout for this very worthy cause!
If anyone else can make it, please do come.
If possible, please sign up for a specific timeslot by giving me a call (303-722-5107) or email (heather@detailersparadise.com) or PM me, asap.
(that's me begging)
Thanks much!

It just so happens that my regular donation cycle with Bonfils has come up now, so I'll there around 8:30 (I forgot my signup time). I have donated over 14 gallons (yes gallons) with Bonfils over the years. I'll stick around to make sure that Chuck doesn't chicken out! The first time is always the hardest, mentally. Everybody handles it differently, so it's fun to see how the first timers make out. Hopefully we'll have a lot of first timers and last minute drop-ins!

What day is it? I just woke up. They tell me I went to an Avs game but that's news to me. I knew I was in trouble when the lady taking my blood brought out an empty milk jug and her teeth got long and pointy.
Really though, not too bad, pretty easy in fact. I should probably do more of this.

Chuck rocks!
Congrats to the first-timer (Chuck). It was fun and easy and he didn't scream like a little girl very long. Thanks to Nick & Heather of DP for hosting. Including Jacob, there were several 5280'ers. Next year we'll try to increase our numbers and fill-up the bank. Consider this your one-year notice!
(Kind of off-topic) On the way home, I happened by a newly opened Smart Car dealership in Englewood. At first I thought that the MINI was there as some sort of bait and switch scheme, but it was a used model for sale (hopefully it wasn't traded on a Smart Car). I was curious about the Smart "FourTwo" but I have no thoughts about owning one. It makes the MINI look huge by comparison. Seems like a novelty right now, so time will tell if they'll catch on. The gas mileage (33/41) isn't that great for such a small car and payload (what's in your pockets). The engine is a 1.0 liter, 3 cylinder mouse behind the seats with rear wheel drive. The site http://www.smartusa.com looks a lot like MINI USA.

So yah, my schedule allowed afterall. I was the last and fastest donor of the day. Sadly they took overall as much as 03indigo gave. Not a very promising drive, but every little bit helps.
See ya around!
See ya around!
My sister in law just took delivery
of her SmartForTwo. I will see what she says. Probably all good since it would not be good to admit a mistake.
BTW, she kept the Buick Land Yacht for certain occasions when the Smart just won't do. Like taking her husband and daughter someplace....at the same time.

BIG THANKS to MINI5280 for the turnout at our blood drive last Saturday!!
Without MINI5280 members, our blood drive would have been a flop.
Indeed, as Rick mentioned, perhaps next year (or this fall... we like to do 2 per year) we can make an event of it for the club. Give blood, maybe eat some BBQ, then go for a fun drive! Food for thought for now.
Thanks again to you all!!
