Horrible dealer experience (Not Ralph Schomp)

I have been searching for a 2006 Volvo v70r 6 speed for family use. I finally found a low mileage 2006 sonic blue (smurf). I have been ready to travel very far for the right car but this one was only 60 miles from me. I call the dealer and over the last two days we go over the condition, history, price, warranty and agree on a price. We agree on $500 deposit and a right for a refund only if the car is not as described over the phone. They took my credit card number and said that they would be faxing a receipt. One hour later I get a call back. She says that they will not do a refundable deposit. While we are on the phone she tells me to hold on because another sales manager is telling her that someone is test driving the car right now. She hurries off the phone and says that she will call me back. I call her back and she is telling me that there is a deal going on the car and since my credit card was not charged they are not obligated to sell it to me. So these low lives shopped the car and got someone to pay higher price probably. Doesn't the fact that I gave him the credit card number imply a contract? THey should not let anyone drive the car if there is deposit on it. I am ANGRY!!!!!

I posted this on the volov forums as well, I just want to increase awareness to this dealers sales practice.

Sorry to hear this happened but they are under no obligation to hold a car for you even with a deposit (unless a signed agreement has been made)

that is what I found out as well. It just ticks me off since integrity and honor has no place in car business.

I agree. Eventhough I would not have the car serviced in Col Springs anyway I just did not even want to buy a car from them after that treatment. This is not some shady 'buy here pay here' dealership. THey are a volvo store. Here is the kicker, their motto is:

Nobody buys just one...

My specific requirements are making this a tough find.

2006+ 6 speed only, sonic blue or red. I think I might be looking for a while.

I had an "intreresting" experience with that same Dealership (rhymes with *** Stinkus?) not worth posting, but they lost my business.

Any dealer who will not agree to a refundable deposit cannot be trusted.

I know I am over it now but I was angry. The days of doing business over handshake, your word and honor are over, I need to realize this and lower my expectations.

Just like most of you mentioned a dealership that wont stand behind their word presale can not be trusted post sale either.

There will be rewards for leads...

www.carmax.com and put in what you want and they will get it and ship it anywhere in the USA if they find it.

Wow. Looks like that car at the afore unmentioned dealer is perfect. Too bad. Here are fifty various colored, optioned ones, probably seen these already.

I submitted an "inventory alert" with carmax, thank you.

Brian thanks for the cars.com forward. I check out cars, autotrader and craigslist daily. Are you feeling any better? My cooper needs to visit Ralp Schomp this week. There is a tapping soung coming from front right only at idle. I heard something about flywheels, hope that is not the case. I wish Ralph Schomp sold more brands, I have nothing but great things to say about those people.

Good to hear Brian. Back problems are very frustrating since they do not stop you from living your daily life but they make it much less enjoyable.

The v70r will not see auto-x duties, but there is a couple who auto-x their v70r and I believe they placed pretty high in the NW regionals. They are pretty strong cars. I still like my old Audi wagon's quattro system better than the Volvo's haldex system but it is time for something different.

Our wagon will only serve the following duty:
