going for that classic (antique-y) look..

Hi Folks,

What model/options/colours/trim options, etc. would you choose if you wanted to spec out a new mini that was as close as possible in look & feel to a classic, say 60s British ride? I have some ideas, but would like to here yours.

I think there are a few good options for colors that give the classic look...but I think that the british racing green with a white roof and the rally lights on the grille is one of the most classic looks you can get.

+1 for BRG and white roof . . . or CR and white roof.

As to options -- none, if you want the more-with-less minimalist theme of the classic

Edit -- just realized this was in the cabrio thread . . . not sure the cabrio captures the "classic" Mini look -- so my first suggestion if that's a priority, go hardtop.

That's exactly the flavor I'm after. I went BRG w/ exterior chrome and black stripes (w/ white edges, later changed to chrome edges), 16" R92 wheels, and added the oem driving lights later. I didn't get interior chrome, but will VERY soon. The only things left to make it perfect (don't know if I'll ever get there) would be to redo the anthracite interior parts BRG and get custom leather seats. Here he is so far:

davavd, nice BRG. Now, all it needs is the English Malt brown lounge leather from the Sidewalk edition and burl walnut dash trim.

If MINI had a true BRG instead of the metallic, I might go with that for the "vintage" look. But with the available colours, I think that my wife's Pepper White with various exterior chrome pieces comes very close to the antique/cream white look of the vintage MGBs & Austin Healeys.

I'd *really* like to see how a set of vintage "knock-off"-style wire wheels would look on a PW MINI. The Dayton website has a set of wire wheels on a MINI, but they're not knock-offs, and the MINI is red, so it doesn't quite look right to me.

So do the chome line packages help? Classic cars had more chrome than modern ones, of course, but I wasn't sure if it would make the car look more retro or just 'blinged out'.

Thans for the info so far... How about the lounge leather? How about the wood bits on the interior?

PS - I'm in the market for a hardtop - posted to the wrong group - but the answers all still apply!

Going retro

We were trying to achieve a nice vintage vibe with our MCS as well. We decided on both chrome packages (the chrome mirrors are a great addition if you're going for vintage), English Oak dash (which makes me think back to the old Sunbeam Tigers I grew up with) Any of the leather seats will look great...although the lounge leather is really cool to my eyes.

Consider a non-metallic paint for your MINI to really pull off the vintage vibe.

Have fun!

Add an oogah horn! I did it and now several people in my local club are putting them in their MINIs.

I'd like to add a stupid question, if I may. Did they make a convertible Mini back in the day? I was driving past a parking lot this weekend, and saw a small Mini looking convertible parked. I should have circled around to check it out better....
