Someone just mentioned to me that he had seen new/different "Fresh Air Vents" on some MINIs at the local dealer. Can anyone confirm that this is the case. If so, does anyone have pictures? Just to be clear: I'm referring to the black "honeycomb and foam" vents beneath the wipers.

Just for the record: I hate that foam!

 

A few people I've seen have replaced the foam with aluminum grating cut to size (availalbe at hardware stores). It looks good, but I park under oak trees a lot so I like the filtering affect of the foam. If you do this make sure you find aluminum, not galvanized steel which will eventually rust.

 

I would like to see a mod of the drivers side fresh air vent that would catch air like a mini scoop to force cold air down into that area near the backwall and feed that air to my cold air intake box- madness air filter with the rear wall drilled out mod. Something small but effective that will assist air to flow down.

Of course the down side to any front bonnet scoop mod is the creation of drag and reduced smooth airflow over the car before the air hits the windshield. I would not want to adversely affect the coefficient of drag on the MINI just to get some air.

Maybe some black painted PVC elbows? Ant ideas?

and mini charges $55 to replace the foam...lol

mine was destroyed in a moonsoon storm here in Ariz....I declined there $55 offer and did it myself....laugh !

 

I ordered the MINI one hood air scoop 5mins ago to replace the honeycomb.


the hood scoops are the white things I think.

Those look awesome! I can't imagine they have a measurable adverse effect on the airflow of the car, as long as they don't whistle! Where did you get those bud?

As far as Rice, Whatever! It's definitly a more modern design, but I like it!

 

i just got my cooper s a few weeks ago with a may build date. the front vents are different. the foam is gone and the hex is a bit smaller. in each hex is a few vents that are on an angle. they look really thick and tough. i could take a photo tonight and e-mail anyone that wants to see them or post it here for me since i do not know how to do that (yet).

Yeah, kevlar is yellow. I'm thinking of getting that too, in Carbon fibre though. well maybe kevlar, I'm undecided. but for $500 bucks? then again, you wont lose the airbag in the seats...

still want to see MINI's new airvents though...
