Autocross at MOTD

I haven't seen anything mentioned about an autocross at MOTD this year, I've had a lot of fun with this event the past two years- is it going to happen again this year?

Thanks Jason for bringing this up!

Haven't the previous Auto-X's been coordinated by the Chattanooga area SCCA?

The autocross has been confirmed. It will be on Saturday May 3 and hosted by the East Tennessee region SCCA. It will be held at William Blount High School in Maryville, TN. I'll provide more information on this as we get everything in the schedule planned. Let's hope that this year we'll have a dry autocross

Is it true that a Cabrio is not permitted in SCCA Autocross?

Thank you so much Mark! The rain made things quite fun last year, but I'd also be happy for a dry day!

100% untrue! Convertibles are more than welcome for SCCA autocrosses.

You are more than welcome. When I started autocrossing again in 2000 I was doing it in a S2000. There are plenty of convertibles running Solo 2. In fact, in 2006 the #1 index at nationals was put down by a convertible...a Pontiac Solstice.

I guess the person that told me this was worried that my MINI would beat their hardtop Mousethang.
He said that convertibles would have to install an expensive rollbar system in order to compete.

If you were going to competitively track the car that is likely the case. However in Solo 2 that should not be an issue. If you were preparing a car to compete at the National Championship level for Solo 2 you probably wouldn't want to select a Cabrio because of the additional weight of the reinforcements needed for the car. That said, for your local events and MOTD, you will have a blast

I'll get the information up asap but since registration for the autocross is handled through a different site (East Tennessee Region SCCA) it wasn't part of our event registration process. It will, however, start early Saturday morning (May 3, 2008 ) and run most of the day. We should be back in time for the Farewell Dinner.

If your Cooper doesn't have any mods, except for running R compound tires for autocross, you would run in H Stock. If you have things like camber plates, rear swar bar, etc. you'll be running in something like a street prepared or prepared class. Regardless, given its generally all MINIs running it comes down to bragging rights on times for the Cooper vs. Cooper S

When you refer to slicks do you mean R compounds?

thanks but i was asking cooper 99 what class that he was in i have ran with him in the past. is this auto x going to be mini's only or will there be other cars. because it would be sweet to fight it out with mini's only.

yes they are dot aproved hooser's i run R compound in the front and A compund inthe back. the A is a little sticker keeps the back from stipping out

Except for a couple of cars brought by the guys of ETR that hold the event for us it will be all MINIs (maybe even a classic or two). The ETR guys, in support of the event, get to run their cars. Last year there were about 4-5 cars that weren't MINIs.
