Good deal or move on?

Test drove an 02 mcs today. The car has been modded with what looks like to be HK sport coil overs, The supercharger pulley has ET stamped on it, looks to be an aftermarket stabilizer bar on rear, bug lights in the grill and aftermarket mufflers. No cruise control, no harman, no heated seats, and to me looked like vinyl not leather. The interior has some scratches in the plastic bit no tears, some dirt on the headliner. 53k miles. Blue. New Kumho tires, 17" .
I got the stealer down to 13750$ I still think that is a little high considering the lack of options and it doesn't appear to have been "babied". The car fax is clean.
Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanx
Dan

Run.

Check out the car appraiser on edmunds.com. It gives me $11k.

I think you can do better. Go for a newer model.

Let the guy keep it for $13,750. There are lots of cars for sale on the forums for a lot better price than that. I have seen 2002 MCS anywhere from high 10,000 to 12,000 depending on condition and mileage.

Like this high high/medium mileage 2003 for under $10,000. If that car checks out that could make a great track car for someone. Its local to me... I would love to buy it but can't right now.

Bad deal! Check our classifieds!

Here's one loaded for $15.5k

There are more there as well, with great prices. NAM members usually get a discount for other NAM members, so you'll usually find MINI's on here a little cheaper. That, and you can't BS information.

Wow r u guys serious. I guess paying $16500 for my 03 mini cooper S with less than 28000 miles was way to much. I just got it a little over 2 months ago. The car itself was clean with a couple of scratches that a buff wont take out. The interior also was clean besides the driver seat having scuff marks on it. It doesn't have the cold packages and the Harmon stereo but has everything else and i still love it. good luck

I paid $17k a year and a half ago for my 03' with 47k miles on it. That's not really bad at all! Mine is also loaded minus NAV and H/K, but the market was a little better (for the seller) since the R56 was not out.

05-06 are the best of the 1st Gen. All the bugs ironed out, better trannys, better gearing.

djmini420 - I wouldn't worry about your purchase -- what you describe is very different from the OP's question -- he's looking at an 02 (intro year with some issues improved by 03) with twice the miles of yours (buying a well-cared for 28k-mile car is very different than a 53k-mile "not babied" one) and with what appear to be NO options. Saying almost $14,000 is too much for that car doesn't mean yours was "way too much"

But that's less that 7K miles/year, which justifies a slightly higher selling price. the general equation is less miles + more desirable options (like leather) = higher resale value. Dont fret, you did fine.

After looking at Dominos MCS I agreed to buy it from him. Dominos really took care of it. For about $1500 more then the 02 I got way more options, better year and meeting the owner makes a big difference.

I bought my 2003 MCS last June for $18,500. California car, original owner and it had 35k on odometer. The car was loaded with NAV, heated seats, computer, 6 speed etc, etc, etc. Loaded! Some told me I paid way too much and to them I say - "Find one cheaper here in Northern California with same equipment for less". As far as I'm concerned it's a great little car and fun to drive. In fact I think it's the most fun I've had with my clothes on. Other cars I've owned have been Jag, Vette, MBZs, Spitfire, numerous Firebirds etc. This beats them all!

I am so excited I can't stand it!
Have to wait until next week to pick it up.
I have never bought a car that I wanted, always what I needed.
